21. The effect of spatial and temporal dose distributions on radiation-induced side effects in the lung
Sammanfattning : In radiotherapy (RT), the aim is to kill all malignant cells in a tumor or to render them incapable of further division and multiplication without producing damage to the normal tissues surrounding the tumor. To achieve this, both the spatial and temporal distribution of dose delivery are important for optimizing the treatment. LÄS MER
22. Exploring phenomena that affect the fate and impact of radioactive materials in the blue mussel
Sammanfattning : Current protection of the marine environment from radiation is based largely on measuring, estimating and modelling accumulation and impact(s) of radionuclides in a few marine species. Using a relevant marine organism, this thesis focusses on investigating some poorly described phenomena that could cause deviations from predicted measurements. LÄS MER
23. High Resolution Transmission Spectroscopy of Exoplanets
Sammanfattning : A large number of exoplanets has been observed in the last three decades, but still for most of them we know comparatively little about the atmospheres of these distant planets. This is of particular interest as there exist types of planets that don't have an analogy in our own solar system, like hot Jupiters or super Earths. LÄS MER
24. Optical Design and Characterization of Solar Concentrators for Photovoltaics
Sammanfattning : Stationary solar energy concentrators are a promising option for decreasing the price of photovoltaic electricity. This thesis studies stationary concentrators in PV/Thermal applications. The studied systems are parabolic troughs intended for building integration. The first chapters briefly explain the optics of solar energy concentrators. LÄS MER
25. Thermal stresses in load-bearing glass-timber components
Sammanfattning : Thermal stresses can arise in glass used in architectonic realisations in buildings as a result of solar irradiation: that is, sunlight. The magnitude of these thermal stresses depends on the temperature conditions in the glass in terms of the temperature differences between warm and cold areas. LÄS MER
