    Sammanfattning : Red blood cell (RBC) and iron status biomarkers are commonly used in clinical diagnostics. However, interpretations of infant test results are inherently challenging. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Clinical effects of reduced iron content and fortification with bovine lactoferrin in infant formula

    Författare :Maria Björmsjö; Staffan K. Berglund; Olle Hernell; Mary Fewtrell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infant formula; lactoferrin; bovine lactoferrin; iron; iron supplementation; iron fortification; iron status; infant nutrition; cytokines; neurodevelopment; vaccine response; infection-related morbidity; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Breast milk, with its complex, individual and over time adapting composition, is considered the optimal source of nutrition for infants during the first months of life. Two possible contributing factors to the benefits of breastfeeding compared to infant formula-feeding are the differences in iron and lactoferrin (Lf) concentrations between breast milk and infant formula. 3. 8. Vitamin D and its role in obesity and other associated conditions

    Författare :Christos Karefylakis; Eva Rask; Stefan Särnblad; Kerstin Landin-Wilhelmsen; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; obesity; Roux-en-Y gastric bypass; secondary hyperpara-thyroidism; anemia; iron deficiency; body composition; cardiorespiratory fitness; Vitamin D C3 epimer;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin D has received much attention in recent years due to the re-emergence of vitamin D deficiency as a global health issue along with increasing evidence indicating that 1,25-dihydroxivitamin D, the hormonally active form of vita-min D, not only acts in calcium and bone metabolism but also generates ex-traskeletal biological responses.In this thesis, the role of vitamin D in obesity and other associated condi-tions has been studied. 4. 9. Nutrition and Oxidative Parameters in Pregnancy, Size at Birth and Metabolic Status of the Offspring at 4.5 Years : The MINIMat Trial in Rural Bangladesh

    Författare :Emma Lindström; Eva-Charlotte Ekström; Lars-Åke Persson; Samar Basu; Tessa Roseboom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pregnancy; micronutrient deficiency; anemia; birth size; food supplementation; micronutrient supplementation; metabolic status; childhood; International Health; Internationell hälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Undernutrition and oxidative stress in fetal life and infancy may lead to adverse health outcomes in the offspring. We studied nutrition and oxidative parameters in pregnancy and their associations with birth anthropometry and metabolic status in the children. LÄS MER

  5. 10. In Vitro Availability of Iron in High-Tannin Sorghum. Effect of Enzymatic Oxidation of Phenolic Compounds

    Författare :Erika Matuschek; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bioavailability; catechol groups; polyphenols; polyphenol oxidase; iron; in vitro availability; tyrosinase; fruit extracts; sorghum; oxidation; tannins; galloyl groups;

    Sammanfattning : Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional disorder in the world. In low income countries, it is to a large extent caused by low bioavailability of iron in the vegetable diet. Vegetable diets contain large amounts of compounds that inhibit iron absorption, e.g. LÄS MER
