1. Constraints on the gas temperature in the solaratmosphere from multiwavelength inversions
Sammanfattning : In this Licentiate thesis I review the properties of the solar atmosphere and the diagnostic value ofdifferent spectral lines in the visible and ultraviolet (UV) along with the millimeter (mm) continua in theelectromagnetic spectrum of the Sun.While the solar atmosphere has been routinely observed in high-resolution from ground-based opti-cal telescopes such as the Swedish Solar Telescope (SST), and more recently in the UV from space tele-scopes such as the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS), radio observations lag behind despitetheir great usefulness. 2. Catching the Spore killers : Genomic conflict and genome evolution in Neurospora
Sammanfattning : A genome is shaped by many different forces. Recombination can for instance both create and maintain genetic diversity, but the need to locally reduce recombination rates will also leave specific signatures. LÄS MER
3. The evolution of sex chromosomes and sex-linked sequences in birds
Sammanfattning : Identifying the processes involved in the evolution of suppressed recombination between sex chromosomes and understanding their consequences for the evolutionary dynamics of sex-linked loci have been major topics of research during the last century. In this thesis, I used the avian ZW system, where females are the heterogametic sex, to investigate the underlying processes in sex chromosome evolution in birds. LÄS MER
4. The evolution of flat periwinkles Littorina fabalis and L. obtusata emhasizing mitochondrial introgression and restricted recombination
Sammanfattning : The evolution of species takes in general very long time and different mechanisms are likely to operate during the various stages of this process. Accordingly speciation should be studied at different levels of species divergence. LÄS MER
5. Satellite microwave measurements of ice cloud properties
Sammanfattning : Ice clouds play an important role in Earth's radiation balance and climate because they reflect incoming sunlight and trap outgoing infrared radiation. There is still an uncertainty about how ice clouds will respond to the effects of global warming. Many climate models use prognostic cloud mass schemes to represent cloud feedbacks. LÄS MER
