26. Renal Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease
Sammanfattning : Kidney dysfunction increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The mechanisms for the risk increase seem to involve a combination of traditional and non-traditional CVD risk factors. We studied renal dysfunction as CVD and mortality risk factor in middle-aged men free from diabetes and CVD. 27. Vascular Dysfunction in Stroke and CADASIL
Sammanfattning : Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) is strongly linked to hypertension and generally occurs later in life than coronary artery disease (CAD). Three quarters of the patients with symptomatic CVD are above 65 years of age. The risk factors are the same for CVD and CAD, but the relative importance of the vascular risk factors differs greatly. 28. Brain function and glucocorticoids in obesity and type 2 diabetes including effects of lifestyle interventions
Sammanfattning : Background Obesity and associated metabolic dysregulation are linked to impaired cognitive function and alterations in brain structure, which increases the risk of age-related dementia. Increased glucocorticoid (GC) exposure may be a potential mediator of these negative effects on the brain. LÄS MER
29. Functional Characterization of Tyrosine Transporters in fibroblast from Healthy Controls and Schizophrenic Patients
Sammanfattning : Cultured human fibroblasts offer an advantageous system to investigate the amino acid transport properties without confounding the affects of disease state and its treatment in many systemic psychiatric disorders. In previous studies, fibroblast cells have been used to investigate the tyrosine transport across plasma membranes in patients with schizophrenia and autism with out characterizing the particular amino acid transporters. 30. Genetical and Clinical Studies in Wilson's Disease
Sammanfattning : Wilson’s disease is a rare inborn error of metabolism caused by a defect in ATP7B, a protein necessary for proper copper excretion into bile. It is characterised by copper accumulation with hepatic and central nervous system dysfunction. LÄS MER
