11. In vivo imaging of leukocyte-endothelium interactions in septic lung injury
Sammanfattning : Excessive accumulation of leukocytes in the lung represents a key feature in the development of an acute lung injury (ALI). Numerous studies demonstrated that leukocyte rolling is a compulsory precondition for the firm adhesion in organs. However, it seems that the recruitment process of leukocytes in the lung is more complex. LÄS MER
12. Role of mast cell-derived mediators for leukocyte / endothelium-interactions and microvascular mechanisms in inflammation and in anaphylaxis
Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the roles of mast cell-derived mediators for leukocyte/endothelium interactions and microvascular mechanisms in inflammation and in anaphylaxis, using mast cell-deficient Ws/Ws rats and their wild-type +/+ littermates. The efflux of endogenous histamine and edema formation evoked by subplantar injection of compound 48/80 in rat hind-paws was dose-dependent in +/+ rats, and was essentially lacking in Ws/Ws rats. 13. Acid transport through gastric mucus : A study in vivo in rats and mice
Sammanfattning : The gastric mucosa is frequently exposed to endogenously secreted hydrochloric acid of high acidity. Gastric mucosal defense mechanisms are arranged at different levels of the gastric mucosa and must work in unison to maintain its integrity. LÄS MER
14. Functions of integrin receptors in extravascular neutrophil migration and respiratory burst
Sammanfattning : Leukocytes circulate in the vasculature, but, must leave the blood stream and migrate through the surrounding tissue to exert their protective functions in inflammation. Numerous studies have revealed that intravascular leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions involve functions of adhesion molecules belonging to the selectin and integrin receptor families. LÄS MER
15. Mediator synergism in mast celldependent inflammation : role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to study functional interactions between histamine and chemotactic mediators, and the role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment in mast cell-dependent inflammation. Leukocyte rolling, adhesion and emigration. LÄS MER
