16. Cardioprotective mechanisms by inhibition of the HMG-CoA reductase pathway and stimulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors in myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion
Sammanfattning : Acute myocardial ischaemia causes metabolic changes and results in a rapid decrease in the energy available to the cell. This leads to cell injury that, depending on the length of the ischaemic time, is reversible or irreversible. LÄS MER
17. Contributions of calcitonin gene-related peptide in ischemia, inflammation and nociception
Sammanfattning : The sensory neuropeptide Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a very potent vasodilator with a wide distribution in peripheral sensory nerves, often co-stored with substance P. In the present study, the effects of CGRP in different models of ischemia, inflammation and nociception were examined. LÄS MER
18. Novel injectable calcium sulfate depot formulations for local cancer treatment
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, a novel drug delivery technology named NanoZolid® based on hydrating inorganic calcium sulfate, is investigated. NanoZolid is injected as a liquid suspension of calcium sulfate, which solidifies in vivo by hydration forming a biocompatible and bioresorbable depot that slowly dissolves and releases the active substance. 19. Activation of murine cytotoxic cells with interelukin-2 and the bacterial superantigen staphylococcal entertoxin A
Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells and T lymphocytes are the major effector cells that can recognize and kill tumor cells. NK cells have a constitutive cytotoxic activity and kill a wide spectrum of tumor cells while T cells recognize specific tumor antigens and need to be activated through their TCR to differentiate into cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) killers or T helper cells. 20. Mast cell responses to danger signals
Sammanfattning : Detecting and responding to danger is a paramount function of the immune system. Compounds heralding danger can be divided into two groups: exogenous and endogenous danger signals. LÄS MER
