1. Trochanteric Hip Fractures Clinical Outcomes and the Cut-out Complication
Sammanfattning : The established treatment for trochanteric hip fractures is internal fixation, either intramedullary (nail) or extramedullary (plate). Approximately 10% of these patients suffer from mechanical complications, the most frequent one being perforation of the lag screw through the femoral head into the hip joint (cut-out). LÄS MER
2. On the treatment of tibial fractures using the Ilizarov fixator
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to analyse the results of the Ilizarov method in patients with different types of tibial fracture and compare them with conventional methods, in terms of primary union, complication rates, post-operative function, quality of life, and how the patients´ gait was affected during rehabilitation. Fifty-eight patients with isolated diaphyseal fractures (Study I) were randomised to treatment with either the Ilizarov method (IL) or locked intramedullary nailing (IM). LÄS MER
3. Femoral shaft fractures in children and adolescents; stability, residual deformity and recovery of physical function
Sammanfattning : Femoral shaft fracture is the most common injury requiring hospital admission among children. The limited number of studies makes it challenging to provide accurate prognosis for recovery after femoral shaft fractures in children and adolescents. LÄS MER
4. Kinematics and fixation of total knee arthroplasties : a clinical, radiographic, scintimetric, and roentgen stereophotogrammetric evaluation
Sammanfattning : Aseptic loosening of the tibial component is an important cause of failure after total knee arthroplasty. Bone destruction often claimed to be caused by the cement makes the revision difficult. In order to treat younger patients, uncemented fixation has been introduced, but the etiology to loosening is multifactorial and only partly known. LÄS MER
5. Experimental studies on fracture healing. Biological and biomechanical aspects
Sammanfattning : Considerable advances have been made in the knowledge regarding fracture healing and treatment duringrecent decades. Nevertheless, in 5-10 per cent of fractures, there are healing complications leading to complextreatment conditions, discomfort for patients and considerable costs. LÄS MER
