6. Droplet microfluidics for screening and sorting of microbial cell factories
Sammanfattning : Cell factories are cells that have been engineered to produce a compound of interest, ranging from biopharmaceuticals to biofuels. With advances in metabolic engineering, the number of cell factory variants to evaluate has increased dramatically, necessitating screening methods with increased throughput. LÄS MER
7. Amyloid Beta – Biotherapy Target and Biotechnological Tool
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized primarily by memory impairment and cognitive decline. As of 2020, an estimated 50 million people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia and no disease-modifying treatment options are yet approved for clinical practice. LÄS MER
8. Intracellular systems for characterization and engineering of proteases and their substrates
Sammanfattning : Over the years, the view on proteases as relatively non-specific protein degradation enzymes, mainly involved in food digestion and intracellular protein turnover, has shifted and they are now recognized as key regulators of many biological processes that determine the fate of a cell. Besides their biological role, proteases have emerged as important tools in various biotechnical, industrial and medical applications. LÄS MER
9. Biosynthesis, Processing, and Sorting of Human Neutrophil Granule Proteins. Focus on Cathepsin G, Proteinase 3, and Azurocidin
Sammanfattning : The neutrophil granulocyte contains a number of multifunctional proteins stored in different subsets of granules. The azurophil granules, synthesized early during differentiation, harbour leukocyte elastase, cathepsin G, proteinase 3, and azurocidin; the members of the serprocidin family. LÄS MER
10. Targeting of viral proteins to axons and dendrites
Sammanfattning : In the thesis distribution of different proteins of enveloped and non-enveloped viruses was studied in neurons, which are polarized cells with an axonal and a somatodendritic domain. Such studies may give better insight not only into virus spread within neuronal populations and selective changes in infected neurons as a consequence of the spread, but they may also contribute to an understanding of the basic sorting mechanisms, which are responsible for asymmetric targeting of macromolecules to the pre- and postsynaptic regions in a nerve cell.
