  1. 1. Intra-articular Glucocorticoid Treatment : Efficacy and Side Effects

    Författare :Tomas Weitoft; Lars Rönnblom; Ronald vanVollenhoven; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; arthritis; intra-articular glucocorticoid; triamcinolone hexacetonide; arthrocentesis; bone metabolism; cartilage; cortisol; ACTH; joint infection; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Intra-articular glucocorticoid injection therapy is frequently used to relieve symptoms of arthritis, but there is considerable variation in injection routines among physicians. One issue of debate concerns the importance of synovial fluid aspiration during the injection procedure. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neuropeptides in temporomandibular joint arthritis

    Författare :Anna Appelgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adjuvant; Arthritis; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; Glucocorticosteroids; Hippocampus; Hyperalgesia; Hypothalamus; Hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis; Intra-articular temperature; Neurokinin A; Neuropeptides; Neuropeptide Y; Nociception; Pain; Pituitary; Pressure pain threshold; Rheumatoid arthritis; Substance P; Synovial fluid; Temporomandibularjoint; Visual analog scale;

    Sammanfattning : Involvement of the peripheral and central nervous systems in the pathophysiology of arthritis has been suggested and neuropeptides are thought to participate in the mediation and modulation of the inflammatory process. The main objective of the clinical studies was to investigate the relationship between the presence of neuropeptides in the synovial fluid of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the stomatognathic symptoms and signs, including the intra-articular temperature (IAT), in patients with TMJ arthritis. 3. 3. Post-translational and therapy-induced modifications in rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Dimitrios Makrygiannakis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by synovial proliferation and excessive mononuclear infiltration leading to destruction of bone and cartilage, with subsequent joint deformities and physical disability. Even though RA etiology is still unknown, autoantibody driven pathogenic mechanisms are considered to be important, with strong evidence for the pathogenic potentials of antibodies directed against citrullinated antigens. 4. 4. Local and systemic inflammatory mediators and their relation to pressure-pain threshold and pain of the temporomandibular joint

    Författare :Lars Fredriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The first aim of this investigation was to investigate the validity of TMJ pressure-pain threshold for assessment of pain conditions of inflammatory nature in the TMJ. Pressure-pain threshold was recorded from the palpable lateral pole of the TMJ condyle with a hand-held electronic pressure algometer (Somedic Production AB, Sollentuna, Sweden). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mesenchymal stem cell regeneration and differentiation after anti inflammatory drug exposure

    Författare :Maritha Kumlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic and degenerative pathologies of the musculoskeletal system are common and often involve injuries of multiple mesenchymal tissues including bone, cartilage, tendons and ligaments. Medical intervention is frequently initiated to relieve pain, restore biomechanical function, with aim to return to the desired level of activity as soon as possible. LÄS MER
