  1. 6. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide

    Författare :Tina W. Knutson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; albumin; bicarbonate secretion; carbonic anhydrase; dopamine; duodenum; histamine; humans; hyaluronan; intestinal anaphylaxis; intestinal obstruction; jejunum; lidocaine; LOC-I-GUT; nitecapone; nitric oxide; potential difference; prostaglandins; segmental intestinal perfusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine. 2. 7. Developmental and methodological aspects of intestinal and pancreatic function in pigs and rats

    Författare :Klas Rådberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; macromolecule; endocytosis; FITC-dextran; secretion; mucosa; CCK; pancreas; disaccharidase; intestinal permeability; lectin; morphometry; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to effectively absorb nutrients and to act as a safety barrier against hazardous substances in the environment. After birth these functions develops gradually. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Macrophages in Crohn's Disease: lnnate immune cellular and molecular mechanisms driving intestinal inflammation and fibrosis

    Författare :Frida Gorreja; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; macrophages; inflammatory macrophages; tissue-resident macrophages; efferocytosis; innate immunity; myeloid cells; fibroblasts; fibrosis; inflammasomes; Crohn´s disease; inflammatory bowel diseases; digestive diseases; mucosa immunology; intestinal immunity; intestinal inflammation; serum systemic inflammation; microbiota; metabolites;

    Sammanfattning : Macrophages and their interactions with the lamina propria and luminal microenvi-ronment are crucial in the pathogenesis of Crohn´s disease (CD), a chronic inflamma-tory disease with a strong inflammatory innate immune involvement. Therefore, in-terpreting macrophage activity in the intestinal microenvironment may identify treatment targets beneficial for at least a subgroup of patients. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Intestinal transport of levodopa : Implications for the therapy of Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Dag Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Parkinson s disease; levodopa. duodenal Infusion; intestinal permeability; positron emission tomography; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Levodopa has been the basic treatment of patients with Parkinson's disease for the last 30 years. However, with time nearly all patients develop fluctuations in motor performance correlated to levodopa plasma concentrations. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Defence capabilities of human intestinal epithelial cells

    Författare :Anna Fahlgren; Sten Hammarström; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Gudmundur Gudmundsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; intestine; mucosa; epithelium; antimicrobial; defensins; glycocalyx; ulcerative colitis; Crohn´s disease; celiac disease; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The epithelial cells lining the intestinal mucosa separate the underlying tissue from components of the intestinal lumen. Innate immunity mediated by intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) provides rapid protective functions against microorganisms. Innate immunity also participates in orchestrating adaptive immunity. LÄS MER
