16. Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumor Analyses : Somatostatin Analog Effects and MicroRNA Profiling
Sammanfattning : Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) originate from serotonin-producing enterochromaffin (EC) cells in the intestinal mucosa. Somatostatin analogs (SSAs) are mainly used to control hormonal secretion and tumor growth. However, the molecular mechanisms leading to the control of SI-NETs are unknown. LÄS MER
17. EFFECTOR T CELL HOMING TO THE SMALL INTESTINAL MUCOSA
Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa, including the intestinal epithelium and underlying lamina propria (LP), contains a large number of effector/memory T cells that are thought to play a central role in the generation and maintenance of mucosal immune responses and in maintaining mucosal integrity. The work in this thesis investigates the mechanisms regulating effector T cell recruitment to the small intestinal mucosa focusing on the role of chemokine receptors in this process. LÄS MER
18. Coeliac Disease in Childhood : On the Intestinal Mucosa and the Use of Oats
19. On Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, bacterial translocation and intestinal permeability
Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract harbours a huge load of bacteria which exerts important biological functions to maintain health. In certain conditions the relation between commensal bacteria and pathogens may be set off balance, with an increase in number of pathogens and risk of bacterial translocation (BT). LÄS MER
20. Expression and regulation of CCL25 and its role in T cell localization to and function within the small intestine
Sammanfattning : Earlier studies have demonstrated an important role for the chemokine CCL25, and its receptor CCR9, in the generation of the small intestinal lymphocyte compartment. The work in this thesis was aimed at determining how CCL25 is regulated within the small intestinal mucosa, and what potential role it plays in T cell localization to and function within this site.
