  1. 1. Adrenergic control of small intestinal motility and blood flow : an experimental study in rat and man

    Författare :Mikael Thollander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :clonidine; computerized recording; intestinal blood flow; isoprenaline; laser Doppler flownretry; manometry; migrating motor complex; oxymetazoline; propranolol; small intestine;

    Sammanfattning : Small intestinal motility in the fasted state is characterized by migrating motor complexes (MMCs). Both animals and man exhibit the MMC, which consists of periods of regular contractions, i.e. activity fronts, that migrate along the length of the small bowel and alternate with periods of quiescence. 2. 2. On the Aggregation of Cereal β-Glucan and its Association with other Biomolecules : A Study using Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4)

    Författare :Claudia Zielke; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :ß-glucan; polysaccharides; dietary fiber; field flow fractionation; Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation AF4 ; Multiangle light scattering MALS ;

    Sammanfattning : During recent years, numerous studies have shown the ability of dietary fiber toprotect the colon from disease and to improve intestinal health. Beneficial healtheffects, such as the lowering of blood cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease, are often directly related to cereal β-glucan, one of the major components of dietary fiber found in oat and barley. 3. 3. On intestinal ischaemia after aortoiliac surgery : Epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Martin Björck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Ischaemia; intestines; colon; ischaemic colitis; aorta-abdominal; aortic aneurysm-abdominal; aortic rupture; atherosclerosis; postoperative complications; cohort studies; case-control studies; clinical protocols; experimental design; incidence; risk factors; diagnosis; treatment outcome; intra-mucosal pH; pHi; swine; splanchnic circulation; haemodynamics; dobutamine; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : An important cause of death among patients undergoing surgery of the abdominal aorta is intestinal ischaemia. In the Swedish Vascular Registry 2930 aortoiliac operations were identified. The complication was studied in a combined cohort and case-control study, and multivariate analysis performed. The incidence of intestinal ischaemia was 2. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response

    Författare :Ebbe Rønholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbondioxide; complement activation; cytokines; endotoxaemia; hydrogen-ion concentration; liver transplantation; laser-Doppler flowmetry; PMN elastase; regional blood flow; reperfusion;

    Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Helicobacter pylori and Gastric Protection Mechanisms : An in vivo Study in Mice and Rats

    Författare :Johanna Henriksnäs; Lena Holm; Lars Engstrand; Erik Persson; Lars Fändriks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; intra-vital microscopy; laser-Doppler flowmetry; pH-sensitive microelectrode; nitric oxide; Helicobacter pylori; bicarbonate secretion; mouse model; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The stomach is frequently exposed to hazardous agents and to resist this harsh environment, several protective mechanisms exist. Of special interest is the gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori which causes gastritis, ulcers and cancer but the mechanism leading to these diseases are still unclear. However it is very likely that H. LÄS MER
