  1. 16. Snus use and mortality : associations, potential mechanisms, and socioeconomic aspects

    Författare :Marja Lisa Byhamre; Patrik Wennberg; Marie Eriksson; Jan-Håkan Jansson; Magnus Lundbäck; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; snus; Swedish snuff; smokeless tobacco; mortality; cardiovascular; cancer; risk factor; metabolic syndrome; C-reactive protein; vitamin D; testosterone; family medicine; allmänmedicin; befolkningsstudier; Population studies; epidemiologi; Epidemiology; invärtesmedicin; Internal Medicine; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Snus is a smokeless tobacco product made of a moist powder of ground tobacco. It is used mainly in the Nordic countries, although increasingly popular internationally. The Swedish snus tradition dates back to the seventeenth century, and it is now used daily by about 23% of the male and 6% of the female population. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Biomarkers of Renal Function in Acute Coronary Syndromes

    Författare :Axel Åkerblom; Stefan James; Lars Wallentin; Torbjörn Omland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystatin C; glomerular filtration rate; GFR; creatinine; acute coronary syndrome; ACS; kidney; renal; mortality; death; myocardial infarction; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Medicin; Medicine; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis aimed to investigate cystatin C and creatinine-based estimates of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), both at admission and during follow-up, on the combined endpoint of cardiovascular death and myocardial infarction in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). We also evaluated two cystatin C assays and assessed genetic determinants of cystatin C concentrations. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Improving the Quality and Safety of Drug Use in Hospitalized Elderly : Assessing the Effects of Clinical Pharmacist Interventions and Identifying Patients at Risk of Drug-related Morbidity and Mortality

    Författare :Anna Alassaad; Håkan Melhus; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Johan Sundström; Claes Mörlin; Lene Juel Kjeldsen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Older people admitted to hospital are at high risk of rehospitalization and medication errors. We have demonstrated, in a randomized controlled trial, that a clinical pharmacist intervention reduces the incidence of revisits to hospital for patients aged 80 years or older admitted to an acute internal medicine ward. 4. 19. Internal dosimetry. Macroscopic, small-scale and microscopic perspectives

    Författare :Cecilia Hindorf; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiobiologi; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiology; Nuclear medicine; B-cell lymphoma; Radioimmunotherapy; Radionuclide therapy; Internal dosimetry; Radiopharmaceutical technology; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Internal dosimetry deals with the assessment of absorbed dose for radionuclides distributed inside the body. The absorbed dose is in its turn used for correlation with the biological effect caused by the irradiation. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Studies of New Signal Transduction Modulators in Acute Myeloid Leukemia

    Författare :Anna Eriksson; Martin Höglund; Rolf Larsson; Bjørn Tore Gjertsen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a life-threatening malignant disorder with dismal prognosis. AML is characterized by frequent genetic changes involving tyrosine kinases, normally acting as important mediators in many basic cellular processes. LÄS MER
