  1. 1. Intermittent Claudication : Prevalence and metabolic risk factors

    Författare :Jørgen Mølgaard; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of intermittent claudication (IC) in middle-aged men (45-69 years old) and metabolic risk factors for this disease was studied in a Swedish community. All 15 253 middle-aged male residents in Linköping community, were screened for symptoms of IC using a postal questionnaire, which included detailed questions about smoking habits and presence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus. 2. 2. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    Författare :Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise; aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training. The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria. 3. 3. Physical activity and exercise in patients with intermittent claudication

    Författare :Anna Sandberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Accelerometry; Nordic walking; Peripheral artery disease; Quality of life; Reproducibility of result; Walk test;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction. Supervised exercise is a guideline recommendation in patients with intermittent claudication (IC). As the availability of supervised exercise varies, interest has turned to the more accessible home-based exercise programmes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Invasive treatment for intermittent claudication - clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness

    Författare :Henrik Djerf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Intermittent claudication; peripheral arterial disease; health-related quality of life; cost-effectiveness; invasive treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Intermittent claudication (IC) is caused by obstructive arterial lesions and is characterized by effort-induced pain in the lower extremity, limiting walking distance, and reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The prevalence of IC is increasing due to the ageing of the population, and the consequences of the economic effects are a global problem. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The physiological impact of soccer on elite female players and the effects of active recovery training

    Författare :Helena M. Andersson; Fawzi Kadi; Carl Johan Sundberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Football; Training; Recovery; Intermittent exercise; Sports; Idrott; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN; Fysiologi; Physiology; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science;

    Sammanfattning : Female soccer is becoming more popular and professional in the world. There are, however, limited scientific data available on how elite female players respond to physical stress during soccer games. An effective recovery strategy following a game is important, because there are few recovery days between the games in international tournaments. LÄS MER
