  1. 1. Intermittent fasting in chickens : Physiological mechanisms and welfare implications for broiler breeders

    Författare :Caroline Lindholm; Jordi Altimiras; Ian Dunn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Broiler breeder chickens are the parent stock used to produce broiler chickens raised for human consumption and have long been caught in a welfare dilemma. The immensely successful selection of fast-growing meat-type chickens over the last 80 years has created a remarkably efficient meat-producer and given us access to cheap chicken meat but has also created health problems for the animals. 2. 2. Individual differences in behavior, neurochemistry and pharmacology associated with voluntary alcohol intake

    Författare :Shima Momeni; Erika Roman; Bo Söderpalm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intermittent access; multivariate concentric square field; open field; risk assessment; risk taking; individual difference; behavior; strain variation; endogenous opioid system; naltrexone; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Alcohol use disorder is a worldwide public health problem and is a disorder with substantial individual variation. There are suggested links between various behavioral traits, comorbid psychiatric diseases and excessive alcohol consumption. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Early Environment and Adolescent Ethanol Consumption : Effects on Endogenous Opioids and Behaviour in Rats

    Författare :Loudin Daoura; Ingrid Nylander; Erika Roman; Bo Söderpalm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcohol; intermittent ethanol access; maternal separation; multivariate concentric square field™ test; maternal behavior; ultrasonic vocalization; adolescent; neonatal handling; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive and compulsive ethanol drinking is one of the most serious public health issues. Therefore, it is vital to increase the knowledge about risks and protection for alcohol use disorders (AUD) to optimize prevention and treatment strategies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Brain neurotrophin levels and mouse behavior : relationship to environmental influences

    Författare :Shun-Wei Zhu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Environmental Enrichment; Intermittent Individual Housing; Physical Exercise; Anxiety; NGF; BDNF; Dorsal Hippocampus; Ventral Hippocampus;

    Sammanfattning : All normal functions over the lifetime of an animal are based on a dynamic balance of at least three fundamental elements: brain, environment and behaviour. This thesis investigated different aspects of these three elements and revealed novel interactions of brain neurotrophins, environmental influences and emotional behaviour in mice. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exploring spatial and temporal resolution in energy systems modelling : a model-based analysis focused on the developing electricity systems

    Författare :Nandi Moksnes; Viktoria Martin; Mark I. Howells; William Usher; Holger Rogner; Hannah Daly; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy system optimisation modelling; Global sensitivity analysis; Robust decision methods; Geospatial electrification model; SDG7; SDG13.; Energisystem; optimering; energimodellering; Global känslighetsanalys; Robust decision methods; geospatial elektrifieringsmodell; Globala mål 7; Globala mål 13; Energiteknik; Energy Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The energy system is undergoing a transition in many parts of the world with this transition being driven by several factors such as climate change, and economic and social development. Agenda 2030, with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has set the direction on where development should be focussed. LÄS MER
