  1. 1. Regulation of cytokine-induced nitric oxide production in insulin-producing cells

    Författare :Malin Flodström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic islets; insulin-producing cells; cytokines; nitric oxide; inducible nitric oxide synthase; nuclear factor-kappaB; interferon regulatory factor-1; arginine; citrulline; argininosuccinate synthetase; insulin release; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Cytokine-induced expression of the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and production of nitric oxide (NO) may contribute to pancreatic β-cell damage during the development of type 1 diabetes. iNOS catalyses the conversion of arginine into citrulline and NO, a reaction regulated by the amount of expressed iNOS enzyme and by the cellular availability of arginine. 2. 2. Unveiling the protective mechanisms of NOX2-derived ROS against autoimmune diseases

    Författare :Huqiao Luo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), pose a significant burden on society, affecting a considerable portion of the global population. Both SLE and RA are known to have a strong genetic component, with shared genetic predispositions such as neutrophil cytosolic factor 1 (NCF1), which encodes for a subunit of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2) complex. 3. 3. Experimental autoimmune sialadenitis : studies of immunopathogenesis, cellular signaling and MHC genetics

    Författare :Elwaleed Ibrahim Mustafa; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune sialadenitis (EAS), an animal model for Sjogren´s syndrome (SS) in humans, develops spontaneously in certain mouse strains. A major feature of EAS and SS is infiltration of exocrine glands by mononuclear cells (MNC), and functional impairment of predominantly salivary and lachrymal glands leading to mouth and eye dryness. 4. 4. Dissection of immunity controlling spread and growth of Listeria monocytogenes in neuronal cells

    Författare :Yuxuan Jin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :L. monocytogenes; nervous system; neuroinvasion; IFN-ã; CSF-1; neuron; NK cells; T cells; MHC;

    Sammanfattning : Listeria monocytogenes is a Grain-positive, facultative intracellular bacterium that causes severe infections in the nervous system of domestic animals and humans. Rhombencephalitis (brainstem encephalitis) due to L. monocytogenes, is a localized brainstem infection that is frequent in ruminants, and has been reported in humans as well. LÄS MER
