  1. 1. Strengthening steel beams with adhesively bonded composite laminates

    Författare :Dag Linghoff; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFRP laminate; adhesive bond; interfacial stresses.; Strengthening;

    Sammanfattning : Strengthening steel structures with carbon-fibre-reinforced-polymer (CFRP) laminates bonded to the steel substrate has become an interesting alternative to the conventional strengthening methods. The current research comprises analyses of the global and local behaviour of double-symmetrical steel beams strengthened with CFRP laminate bonded with adhesive to the tension flange. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : A large number of existing bridges in European countries are structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to the deterioration of aging bridges and the lack of structural and geometric capacity to accommodate the increasing traffic volume and load levels. To meet the demand for holistic and effective strengthening techniques the SUREBRIDGE solution is proposed for the refurbishment of concrete bridges, which includes the technique of using prestressed carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate as externally bonded reinforcement for flexural strengthening. 3. 3. Micro-mechanical mechanisms for deformation in polymer-material structures

    Författare :Jessica Strömbro; Peter Gudmundson; Per Gradin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Length-scale effects; Strain gradient; Moisture change; Humidity change; Network model; Fibre model; Mathematical model; Polymer; Micro-indentation; Particle composite; Interfacial debonding; Matrix cracking; Paper; Mechano-sorptive creep; Accelerated creep; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the focus has been on micro-mechanical mechanisms in polymer-based materials and structures. The first part of the thesis treats length-scale effects on polymer materials. Experiments have showed that the smaller the specimen, the stronger is the material. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Numerical analysis of the single fiber fragmentation test including the effect of interfacial friction

    Författare :Enrique Graciani; Bent F. Sörensen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Sammanfattning : A numerical analysis of the single fiber fragmentation test is presented in this thesis. The aim of the numerical study is elucidating the influence of friction in the growth of the debond cracks along the fiber-matrix interface. Two distinct approaches and numerical techniques have been employed in the analysis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Experimental and numerical investigations of hydrodynamic focusing of colloidal dispersions

    Författare :V. Krishne Gowda; Fredrik Lundell; Daniel Söderberg; Lynn Walker; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Dispersed non-spherical particles are the fundamental constituent of many complex fluids. Such fluids are studied both for their industrial and scientific importance, and for their peculiar functional properties (mechanical, optical, thermal, fluidic). LÄS MER
