  1. 6. Adsorption of surface active elements on the iron (100) surface : A study based on ab initio calculations

    Författare :Weimin Cao; Seshadri Seetharaman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sulfur; oxygen; surface adsorption; iron surface; ab initio calculations; adsorption energy; work function; difference charge density; thermodynamic stability; average velocity; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In the present work, the structural, electronic properties, thermodynamic stability and adatom surface movements of oxygen and sulfur adsorption on the Fe surface were studied based on the ab initio method. Firstly, the oxygen adsorbed on the iron (100) surface is investigated at the three adsorption sites top, bridge and hollow sites, respectively. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; trypsin; SDS elutability; statherin; salivary proteins; salivary pellicle; proline-rich proteins; plaque control; mucins; microbial adhesion; lubrication; krillase; intraoral friction; hydroxyapatite; gelatin; exchange; enzymes; ellipsometry; dental plaque; degradation; colloidal probe; calcium-induced precipitation; adsorption; atomic force microscopy; total internal reflectance fluorescence spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis addresses three issues related to proteinaceous films at solid/liquid interfaces: adsorption, lubrication and enzymatic interactions. Most of the work has been devoted to oral systems. In addition, gelatin has been investigated as a model protein. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Polymers in Aqueous Lubrication

    Författare :Junxue An; Per M. Claesson; Martin Malsten; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lubrication; boundary lubrication; friction; surface forces; adsorption; adsorption hysteresis; non-equilibrium state; diblock copolymer; polyelectrolyte; thermoresponsive; mucin; QCM-D; ellipsometry; AFM; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the layer properties and polymer structures that were able to aid lubrication in aqueous media. To this end, three types of polyelectrolytes: a diblock copolymer, a train-of-brushes and two brush-with-anchor mucins have been utilized. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Adsorption at the Solid-Liquid Interface: An Atomic Force Microscopy Study

    Författare :Lachlan M Grant; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; hydrophobicity.; self-assembly; aggregate geometry; atomic force microscopy; nonionic; adsorption; surfactant; Fysikalisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate nature of adsorption of amphiphiles to the solid–liquid interface. The surface aggregate structures of the zwitterionic surfactant dodecyldimethylammoniopropanesulfonate, (DDAPS) and a series of nonionic polyoxyethlylene glycol alkyl ethers (C10E5, C12E5, C12E8, C10E6, C14E6 and C16E6) have been determined by Atomic Force Microscopy on solids of different hydrophobicity. 5. 10. Modification of Surface Properties Through Polymer Adsorption. Kinetics, Interaction, Degradation and Stability

    Författare :Dries Muller; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TIRF.; protein; poly lactide ; poly ethylene oxide ; gelatin; exchange; enzyme; ellipsometry; desorption; degradation; adsorption; copolymers; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The interfacial behaviour of polymers in relation to surface modification and polymer degradation was studied. In the first part the interfacial behaviour of amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)–poly(D,L-lactide) (EmLn) diblock copolymers at hydrophilic and hydrophobic substrates from aquous solution was studied.
