1. Novel immunization strategies and interethnic differences in response to malaria infection
Sammanfattning : A better understanding of the role of antigen-presenting cells (APCs) in host resistance to malaria is essential to unravel the complex interactions between the host and the parasite. This would improve the design of malaria vaccines. LÄS MER
2. Genetic polymorphism of xenobiotic metabolising enzymes : implications for interindividual and interethnic differences in drug metabolism and cancer susceptibility
Sammanfattning : Genetic factors are of importance for interindividual and interethnic differences in drug response and cancer susceptibility. In the present investigation the role of genetic polymorphism in the cytochromes P450 CYPIAI, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2EI as well as in glutathione S-transferase Ml (GSTMI) and microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH) for differences in drug response and cancer susceptibility has been investigated in various ethnic populations. 3. Interindividual differences in xenobiotic-metabolising enzymes : the human genetic factor
Sammanfattning : The vast number of human xenobiotic-metabolising enzymes display interindividual variability that can alter the disposition of any compound metabolised by these enzymes, including environmental chemicals and many clinically used drugs. Both genetic and non-genetic factors affect the levels and activities of these enzymes. LÄS MER
4. Interetnisk konflikt eller samförstånd : En studie om etnopolitik i Kurdistan/Irak
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the differences in how ethinic groups co-exist in two different environments in the same country, with a focus on the ethno-political. My research questions are: Why are ethnic or interpersonal relations characterized differently in different regions? How and why do conflicts or agreements arise in specific environments? The aim is to understand the connection between inter-ethnic relations and environmentally specific factors. LÄS MER
5. Single nucleotide polymorphisms related to immune responses in Plasmodium falciparum malaria
Sammanfattning : The current research is directed towards dissection of host genetic factors involved in host immune response and the malaria disease outcome. A possible association between FcγRIIa polymorphism and anti-malarial antibody (A.M.A) responses were investigated in Sudanese patients in relation to clinical outcome of falciparum malaria. LÄS MER
