  1. 1. Interest Group Influence on Political Parties in Western Democracies

    Författare :Maiken Røed; Statsvetenskapliga institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; interest groups; political parties; interest group influence; organizational ties;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis asks when and why interest groups influence political parties. I address this question in two ways: 1) by examining the organizational ties between parties and interest groups, given that party-interest group ties may constitute an important step on groups' way to influence, and 2) by more directly examining interest group influence on parties. 2. 2. Interest to Reinvest : Individuals’ use of numerical information for investment decisions

    Författare :Nichel Gonzalez; Timo Mäntylä; Ola Svenson; Rob Ranyard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; decision making; investments; interest rate; asset accumulation; information processing; gains; losses; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of how numerical information, such as asset values and interest rates, influences inexperienced investors in their investment decisions. In relation to this, I have investigated the participants’ own understanding of what information they rely on for their own decisions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional and Modular As=C and P=C Group Motifs

    Sammanfattning : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments. 4. 4. Understanding interest politics in social-ecological systems : Mechanisms behind emergent policy responses to environmental change

    Författare :Kirill Orach; Maja Schlüter; Henrik Österblom; Thorsten Blenckner; Scott Page; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Social-ecological system; policy process; interest group; agent-based modelling; process tracing; adaptive governance; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental policymaking is embedded in social-ecological systems (SES) that continuously evolve and change, often in unexpected and non-linear ways. Such challenges call for responsive policymaking that adjusts policy when new information and knowledge about social-ecological change is available. LÄS MER

  5. 5. New Constructions for Competitive and Minimal-Adaptive Group Testing

    Författare :Muhammad Azam Sheikh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; strict group testing; disjoint pools; randomization; competitive group testing; minimal-adaptive group testing; exact bounds; competitive ratio;

    Sammanfattning : Group testing (GT) was originally proposed during the World War II in an attempt to minimize the \emph{cost} and \emph{waiting time} in performing identical blood tests of the soldiers for a low-prevalence disease. Formally, the GT problem asks to find $d\ll n$ \emph{defective} elements out of $n$ elements by querying subsets (pools) for the presence of defectives. LÄS MER
