1. Asymptotics of random matrices and matrix valued processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains three parts. In the first two papers we consider spectral properties of symmetric matrices with elements consisting of independent Ornstein Uhlenbeck processes. The eigenvalues behave as a particle system on the real line with singular interaction consisting of electrostatic repulsion and a linear restoring force. LÄS MER
2. Mathematical models of biological interactions
Sammanfattning : Mathematical models are used to describe and analyse different types of biological interactions. From self-propelled particle models capturing the collective motion of fish schools to models in mathematical neuroscience describing the interactions between neurons to individual-based models of ecological interactions. 3. Studiesituationen för elever med särskilda matematiska förmågor
Sammanfattning : The study aims to describe variation in the expression of students’ mathematical ability and the various ways in which their mathematical aptitude is acknowledged and supported by their teachers, parents and peers in a Swedish context. Ability is defined as a complex of various abilities each of which may be more or less pronounced in a given individual. LÄS MER
4. The meaning(s) of inclusion in mathematics in student talk : Inclusion as a topic when students talk about learning and teaching in mathematics
Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to research and practice within the field of special education in mathematics with more knowledge about, and an understanding of, students´ meaning(s) of inclusion in mathematics education. Three research questions guide the study: What meaning(s) is/are ascribed, and how is inclusion used, in mathematics education research? What meaning(s) do the students ascribe to inclusion in mathematics learning and teaching? And what frames students´ meaning(s) of inclusion in mathematics learning and teaching? The first part of this study began with a systematic literature review on the notion of inclusion in mathematics education research, and the search resulted in 1,296 research studies. 5. Contributions to nonlinear mixed-effects modeling
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is nonlinear mixed-effects models. A nonlinear mixed-effects model is a hierarchical regression model used to analyze measurements from several individuals simultaneously, which allows sharing of information between similar individuals. LÄS MER
