1. Severe Hemodilution - Clinical and Experimental Studies
Sammanfattning : In children, it is often desirable to minimize allogenic blood transfusion, and this thesis explores the physiology of an alternative method of managing perioperative blood loss: hemodilution with Ringer´s dextran. Methods Clinical studies: Arterial pressure, superior caval venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) and blood lactate concentration (L) were studied during bone marrow harvesting (BMH) on 23 occasions in 19 children, 1-17 years of age, with healthy hearts and lungs. 2. Lung volumes and lung mechanics in anesthetized children
Sammanfattning : The thesis was intended to fill gaps in the knowledge regarding the normal development of lung volumes and lung mechanics in children, from young infancy to the mid-teens. In particular, data were previously lacking regarding pre-school children. The studies were done during anesthesia and muscle relaxation. LÄS MER
3. Early ventilatory management and lung function in the immature newly born. Experimental studies in lambs
Sammanfattning : Using an animal model, the thesis explores how the initial ventilation of the lungs, and surfactant therapy, should best be managed after premature birth. Material and measurements: The studies were made in newborn lambs delivered by cesarean section. LÄS MER
4. Fetal ECG waveform analysis for intrapartum monitoring
Sammanfattning : Waveform analysis of the fetal electrocardiogram has been studied since the early seventies from both physiological, signal processing and clinical aspects. It has been found to contain more useful information than the mere detection of RR-intervals (fetal heart rate), e.g. LÄS MER
5. GENERAL ORAL GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST DURING PREGNANCY, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPROVED PREGNANCY OUTCOME AND IMPROVED FUTURE HEALTH
Sammanfattning : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with a risk of adverse pregnancy outcome and is a predictor of subsequent diabetes. The aims of this work were to describe a reliable routine to diagnose abnormal glucose tolerance during pregnancy, to investigate women’s opinions of the specialist care provided, to determine the prevalence of diabetes one year after giving birth, and to elucidate the effect of abnormal glucose tolerance on pregnancy outcome and on the women’s future health.
