  1. 1. Multicriteria optimization for managing tradeoffs in radiation therapy treatment planning

    Författare :Rasmus Bokrantz; Anders Forsgren; Karl-Heinz Küfer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optimization; multicriteria optimization; robust optimization; Pareto optimality; Pareto surface approximation; Pareto surface navigation; intensity-modulated radiation therapy; volumetric-modulated arc therapy; intensity-modulated proton therapy; Optimering; flermålsoptimering; robust optimering; Paretooptimalitet; Paretofrontsapproximation; Paretofrontsnavigering; intensitetsmodulerad strålterapi; rotationsterapi; intensitetsmodulerad protonterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment planning for radiation therapy inherently involves tradeoffs, such as between tumor control and normal tissue sparing, between time-efficiency and dose quality, and between nominal plan quality and robustness. The purpose of this thesis is to develop methods that can facilitate decision making related to such tradeoffs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Robust optimization of radiation therapy accounting for geometric uncertainty

    Författare :Albin Fredriksson; Anders Forsgren; Timothy C. Y. Chan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optimization; intensity-modulated proton therapy; uncertainty; robust planning; setup error; range error; intensity-modulated radiation therapy; multicriteria optimization;

    Sammanfattning : Geometric errors may compromise the quality of radiation therapy treatments. Optimization methods that account for errors can reduce their effects.The first paper of this thesis introduces minimax optimization to account for systematic range and setup errors in intensity-modulated proton therapy. 3. 3. Radiotherapy Gel Dosimetry: Development and Application of Normoxic Polymer Gels

    Författare :Helen Gustafsson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik; Radiopharmaceutical technology; proton; LET; FT Raman spectroscopy; MRI; normoxic gel; IMRT; 3D verification; polymer gel dosimetry; radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In many radiotherapy applications, true three-dimensional dosimetry with good spatial resolution that can be achieved in a single measurement would be of great value. Polymer gel dosimetry fulfils many of the demands on such a system. In this study, methods to facilitate the implementation of gel dosimetry have been investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Out-of-field doses from proton therapy and doses from CBCT imaging : Risk of radiation-induced second cancer from modern radiotherapy

    Författare :Oscar Ardenfors; Irena Gudowska; Alexandru Dasu; Cathrine Jonsson; Pawel Olko; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The use of ionizing radiation for treatment of cancer diseases is continuously increasing as patient survival is improving and new treatment techniques are emerging. While this development is beneficial for curing primary tumors, concerns have been raised regarding the unwanted dose contribution to healthy tissues of patients and the associated risk of radiation-induced second cancer (RISC). 5. 5. Surface guided radiotherapy

    Författare :Malin Kügele; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surface guided radiotherapy; DIBH; SGRT; radiotherapy; patient positioning; intra-fraction motion; surface imaging; treatment planning; SGRT; surface guided radiotherapy; intra-fraction motion; DIBH; patient positioning; treatment planning; surface imaging;

    Sammanfattning : Modern radiotherapy aims to treat the decease while minimizing the radiation dose to the adjacent normal tissue, to minimize acute and late effects of the treatment. The foremost technological approaches have been intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) in combination with image guided radiotherapy (IGRT). LÄS MER
