  1. 1. [68Ga]Exendin-4: Bench-to-Bedside : PET molecular imaging of the GLP-1 receptor for diabetes and cancer

    Författare :Ram kumar Selvaraju; Olof Eriksson; Olle Korsgren; Lars Johansson; Martin Gotthardt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PET; [68Ga]Exendin-4; beta cell imaging; insulinoma; dosimetry;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes epidemic is underway. Beta cell dysfunction (BCF) and loss of beta cell mass (BCM) are known to be key events in its progression. Currently, there are no reliable techniques to estimate or follow the loss of BCM, in vivo. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Alloxan Toxicity to macrophages and Insulinoma Cells

    Författare :Hong Zhang; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Alloxan induces damage and death of pancreatic islet B-cells in severalexperimental animal models, thus causing insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM or type I diabetes). This unique cytotoxicity of alloxan has been studied for more than fifty years. LÄS MER

  3. 3. High-molecular-weight insulin-like growth factor 2 : immunohistochemical, ultrastructural and biochemical findings in insulin cells under normal, diabetic, and neoplastic conditions, and its role in non-islet cell tumour hypoglycaemia

    Författare :Anders Höög; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Insulin-like growth factor-2; IGF-2; islets of Langerhans; B-granules; Diabetes Mellitus type 2; insulinoma; Goto-Kakizaki rat; haemangiopericytoma; ultrastructural immunohistochemistry; gene expression.;

    Sammanfattning : IGF-2 immunoreactive (IR) cells were identified in the normal adult pancreas of man and rat and occurred exclusively in insulin-producing cells. When frozen human pancreatic tissue was extracted and gel-size-separated, a high-molecular-weight (HMW) IGF-2 peptide could be identified. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cytokine-induced beta-cell apoptosis and its regulation by SOCS-1 and imidazoline compounds

    Författare :Irina Zaitseva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A selective destruction of pancreatic β-cells as a consequence of inflammation in the islets of Langerhans is a feature of type 1 diabetes. Pro-inflammatory cytokines secreted by T lymphocytes and macrophages infiltrating the pancreatic islets participate in the development of this autoimmune disease by acting directly on the β-cell. 5. 5. Insulin-Producing Cells, Iron, Oxidative Stress, and Lysosomal Pathology

    Författare :Beata Teresa Olejnicka; Enrique Cadenas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Insulin-producing cells; redox-active iron; oxidative stress; lysosomes; desfenioxamine; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence suggests that injnries caused by oxygen-derived radicals contribute to the destruction of pancreatic islet ß-cells in autoinnnune diabetes mellitus (diabetes type I, or IDDM). Oxidative stress may be caused by an enhanced production of oxygen-derived radicals, or by a decreased scavenging of such molecules. LÄS MER
