6. Pre-, peri- and postnatal influences on ophthalmologic outcome - a study on children born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and children born preterm
Sammanfattning : The aims of the present study were to investigate the effects of prenatal factors in children born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and peri- and postnatal factors in children born preterm on visual function and ocular fundus morphology at school age. In the children born preterm the ophthalmologic outcomes, including optic nerve morphology were analysed in relation to gestational age (GA), birth weight (BW) standard deviation score (SDS), serum levels of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), weight at week 32 (SDS), and weight, length and head circumference (SDS) at school age. 7. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone. Studies in genetically engineered mice
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to enhance the understanding on the relationships between growth hormone (GH) and cardiovascular disease using genetically engineered mice. More specifically the effects of GH on blood pressure (BP), vascular and cardiac function, atherosclerosis and autonomic control of heart rate were studied. LÄS MER
8. The Impact of Growth Hormone and Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) on Systems Related to Cognition
Sammanfattning : Drug dependence is a serious and increasing problem in our society, especially among adolescents. The use of the large variety of substances available can result in a range of physiological and psychological adverse effects on individuals and negative consequences on the society overall. LÄS MER
9. CNS Targets for GH and IGF-1 : Emphasis on Their Regulation in Relation to Cognitive Processes
Sammanfattning : The interest for the growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor-1 (GH/IGF-1) axis and its role in the central nervous system (CNS) has grown during the past decade. GH has been associated with psychological functions as sleep, mood, general well-being and learning and memory. LÄS MER
10. GH Secretion in children. Methodological aspects of determining immunoreactive and bioactive isoforms
Sammanfattning : A child's hormone-dependent growth is dependent on multiple factors, although linear growth is closely associated with levels of growth hormone (GH) secretion. As GH in serum exists in several isoforms, some of which may not be identified by immunoassay, possible alterations in the secretion of these different isoforms in childhood may influence growth and/or metabolism.
