6. Foxf2 and Foxc2, two transcription factors that regulate adipocyte metabolism
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is the most common metabolic disorder today and has reached epidemic proportions in many countries. Diet-induced insulin resistance plays a central role in the development of type 2 diabetes. LÄS MER
7. Mechanisms of insulin signaling and the role of caveolae
Sammanfattning : Insulin regulates metabolic as well as mitogenic processes in target cells, involving a large number of mediators of signal transduction. In its role as a growth factor, insulin stimulates cell growth, in a process we demonstrate requires the participation of the Raf-1 kinase. LÄS MER
8. Statin-induced cellular effects mediated by the P2X7 receptor
Sammanfattning : Cholesterol-lowering statins have been shown to inhibit growth of different cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. Epidemiological studies also indicate a chemopreventive effect of statins. We have investigated the effect of statins on Akt/protein kinase B signaling and their sensitizing effect of cytostatic drugs. LÄS MER
9. Effects of immunosuppressive drugs on human adipose tissue metabolism
Sammanfattning : The immunosuppressive agents (IAs) rapamycin, cyclosporin A and tacrolimus, as well as glucocorticoids are used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs and to treat autoimmune disorders. Despite their desired action on the immune system, these agents have serious long-term metabolic side-effects, including dyslipidemia and new onset diabetes mellitus after transplantation. LÄS MER
10. Expression of inflammatory and insulin signaling genes in acute and chronic stress
Sammanfattning : The acute surgical stress response induces a short-term inflammatory and insulin resistant condition, commonly producing hyperglycemia, which is strongly associated to morbidity and mortality in postsurgical patients. The chronic state of renal insufficiency, on the other hand, represents a long-term stress associated with alarmingly high mortality rates, primarily due to cardiovascular complications, and is similarly related to chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and insulin resistance.
