11. Aspects of beta cell and thyroid autoimmunity in children
Sammanfattning : The two most common autoimmune endocrine diseases in children are autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) and Type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Autoantibodies (ab) can be found several years before clinical diagnosis in both diseases. LÄS MER
12. Identification of manifest diabetes and complication development in gestational diabetes mellitus. The pursuit for biomarkers

13. Genetic interaction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Similarly characterized by hyperglycaemia and long term micro- and macrovascular complications, type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different underlying pathophysiologic processes. In Scandinavia, type 1 diabetes is common; type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of all cases with diabetes. LÄS MER
14. Autoantibodies related to type 1 diabetes in children

The patients need life-long heavy treatment and still complications, both acute and later in life, are common. The incidence of type 1 diabetes has increased rapidly during the last decades, especially among young children. LÄS MER
15. Beta cell function in autoimmune diabetes in young adults
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results from a study of the first four years of diabetes in 879 patients aged 15-34 years at diagnosis. The aims of this study were to compare clinical classification with the presence of autoantibodies, to study the natural course of beta cell function during the first years of disease and to define predictive factors for the remaining beta cell function after diagnosis.
