1. Impacts and drivers of insect herbivory on element cycling in forests globally
Sammanfattning : The effects of insect herbivores on forest functioning are not well understood even though they can have important impacts on ecosystem processes by intercepting foliage before resorption and depositing nutrient-rich materials to the soil. In this thesis, I investigated the impact and drivers of insect folivores on carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and silica (Si) cycling in broadleaf forests, and how this varies with major climate variables. 2. Plant polyploidy and interactions with insect herbivores
Sammanfattning : Polyploidization has been suggested to be a common mechanism for plant speciation. Polyploidy is associated with changes in plant traits and altered habitat preference. LÄS MER
3. Interactions between plants, microbes and insects
Sammanfattning : Plants interact with an astonishing diversity of insects and microorganisms. Both above- and belowground, plants are attacked by herbivores and pathogens, and interact with mutualists such as pollinating insects and beneficial microorganisms. LÄS MER
4. Ecology of parasitoids and their hosts in oilseed rape fields
Sammanfattning : Oilseed rape fields are a very common crop in the agricultural landscape of southern Sweden, and they can harbour surprisingly many insect species. Some of them are herbivores that feed on various parts of the oilseed rape plant, others are natural enemies of the herbivores, and even more species are tourists from the surrounding landscape. 5. The effect of climate on oak-based species interactions : annual number of leaf flushes and insect voltinism
Sammanfattning : Plants interact with a large diversity of organisms, including insects and microorganisms. These species interactions are strongly influenced by climate, as illustrated by the advances in plant and insect phenology in response to increasing temperatures. LÄS MER
