  1. 1. Neck Injury Risk in Rear-End Impacts. Risk Factors and Neck Injury Criterion Evaluation with Madymo Modelling and Real-Life Data

    Författare :Linda Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; injury criteria; rear-end impacts; neck injuries; mathematical modelling; injury probability; head restraints; BioRID; NICmax; risk factors; WAD; car seats;

    Sammanfattning : Soft-tissue neck injuries, also termed AIS 1 neck injuries, are common after low-speed rear-end impacts. These injuries, which can be long-lasting, have increased in frequency during the past few decades. There is no consensus regarding injury mechanisms; however, injury criteria have been proposed, without yet being fully evaluated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Injuries among the elderly : study of fatal and non-fatal injury events

    Författare :Harmeet Sjögren; Ulf Björnstig; Anders Eriksson; Pat Waller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; elderly; injury; prevention; traffic; home; fall; crash; disease; bicyclist; pedestrian; cost; vehicle;

    Sammanfattning : In view of the expected increase in the proportion of elderly in the population in most western countries, we studied injuries among the elderly (>60 years) by investigating hospital-treated injuries in inpatients and outpatients, and fatal injuries.One-year Hospital Injury Data - Even though the elderly made up only 15% of the injured in one year, they accounted for 42% of the total cost of trauma medical care, showing that injuries among the elderly place a disproportional burden on the health care system. 3. 3. The role of forensic epidemiology in evidence-based forensic medical practice

    Författare :Michael Freeman; Anders Eriksson; Maurice Zeegers; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; forensic epidemiology; forensic medicine; probability; traffic crash; autopsy; logistic regression; Bayes´law; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives This thesis is based on 4 papers that were all written with the same intent, which was to describe and demonstrate how epidemiologic concepts and data can serve as a basis for improved validity of probabilistic conclusions in forensic medicine (FM). Conclusions based on probability are common in FM, and the validity of probabilistic conclusions is dependant on their foundation, which is often no more than personal experience. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Advancing Traffic Safety : An evaluation of speed limits, vehicle-bicycle interactions, and I2V systems

    Författare :Ary Pezo Silvano; Haris Koutsopoulos; Haneen Farah; Karl-Lennart Bång; Alfonso Montella; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Traffic safety; urban roads; posted speed limits; road characteristics; free-flow speed; time headway; vehicle-bicycle interactions; logit model; yielding probability; cooperative systems and warning messages.; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Sammanfattning : Since the introduction of motor vehicles, the number of fatalities and accidents has been a concern for society.The number of fatalities on roads is amongst the most common causes of mortality worldwide (WHO, 2015).Even in industrialized countries the number of fatalities remains unacceptable. 5. 5. Accidents between pedestrians, bicyclists and motorized vehicles: Accident risk and injury severity

    Författare :Höskuldur Kröyer; Trafik och väg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accidents; pedestrians; bicyclists; exposure; risk; consequence; speed; age.;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this work are to better understand (1) the relation between exposure and the risk of an accident between pedestrians and motorized vehicles and between bicyclists and motorized vehicles occurring at urban intersections and (2) how the speed environment and the victim´s age relate to the injury severity/outcome once a pedestrian or a bicyclist has been struck by a motorized vehicle. Cross sectional studies are used, and the relations are analyzed using multinomial logit models, negative binomial regression and other statistical methods. LÄS MER
