26. On CXC Chemokines in Endotoxin-Induced Liver Injury
Sammanfattning : Leukocyte recruitment is a rate-limiting step in endotoxemic liver injury. Leukocyte extravasation is a multistep process, supported by multiple combinations of adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors. This thesis examined the mechanisms of activation, adhesion and extravascular infiltration of leukocytes in endotoxin-induced liver injury. LÄS MER
27. Experimental nerve injury : induced pain : mechanisms and modulation
Sammanfattning : Chronic nerve injury-induced pain presents a therapeutic challenge since such pain is often resistant to conventional analgesic drugs including opioids. Better knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying nerve injuryinduced pain is necessary to develop new and more efficacious therapies. LÄS MER
28. Glutamate Turnover and Energy Metabolism in Brain Injury : Clinical and Experimental Studies
Sammanfattning : During brain activity neurons release the major excitatory transmitter glutamate, which is taken up by astrocytes and converted to glutamine. Glutamine returns to neurons for re-conversion to glutamate. This glutamate-glutamine cycle is energy demanding. LÄS MER
29. Genomic clues to secondary injury mechanisms in brain trauma
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a heterogenous disease that can lead to persistent disability or death. The immediate mechanical disruption of brain tissue is followed by a phase of secondary brain injury. During this phase TBI challenges clinical interventions due to its complexity. LÄS MER
30. Injury prevention and safety promotion in rural communities : contribution of community health workers and an injury data registry system in Iran
Sammanfattning : Injuries affecting people from the rural populations of middle-income countries are poorly documented and so are people health care seeking behaviour and their views and concern about injury prevention. The aim of this thesis, based on studies conducted in rural areas of the Twiserkan district (Iran) is to increase knowledge about injury epidemiology and the potential contribution of community health workers to the control and prevention of injuries.
