21. Physical Modeling of Brain and Head Kinematics
Sammanfattning : The development of head injury criteria and countermeasures for head protection requires understanding of how different factors affect brain and head kinematics. In this thesis, 2D physical models of the human head were developed and used to evaluate how various factors affect brain kinematics during angular head kinematics. LÄS MER
22. Initial Studies of Dynamic Responses of Female and Male Volunteers in Rear Impact Tests
Sammanfattning : Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD) - commonly denoted whiplash injury - resulting from vehicle impacts, is a worldwide epidemic. These injuries occur at relatively low changes of velocity (typically between 10-25 km/h) and in impacts from all directions. Rear impacts are however the most common in the accident statistics. 23. Finite Element Modeling of the Human Head
Sammanfattning : The main objectives of the present thesis were to define the dimension of head injuries in Sweden over a longer period and to present a Finite Element (FE) model of the human head which can be used for preventive strategies in the future. The annual incidence of head injuries in Sweden between 1987 and 2000 was defined at over 22 000, cases most of which were mild head injuries. LÄS MER
24. Falls in wheelchair users with spinal cord injury : incidence, risks and concerns
Sammanfattning : Background: Knowledge about falls and related injuries in persons with spinal cord injuries (SCI) is limited, especially concerning wheelchair users. Further research is required in order to develop future prevention programs, as falls seem to be common and may have serious consequences for persons with SCI. LÄS MER
25. Survival and renal function after acute kidney injury : epidemiological and biomarker studies
Sammanfattning : Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs frequently in the critically ill and has an extremely high short-term mortality. The long-term risks of death, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) have not been fully established and have never been investigated in the Swedish intensive care (ICU) population.
