16. Stability, dual consistency and conservation of summation-by-parts formulations for multiphysics problems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we consider the numerical solution of initial boundary value problems (IBVPs). Boundary and interface conditions are derived such that the IBVP under consideration is well-posed. We also study the dual problem and the related dual boundary/interface conditions. LÄS MER
17. Convection-diffusion-reaction models of sedimentation : Numerical approximation, analysis of solutions and inverse problems
Sammanfattning : The core of this Doctoral thesis is mainly based in the studies of one-dimensional initial-boundary value problems, which are given by a single non-linear hyperbolic partial differential equation (PDE) with non-convex flux function, or by a system of strongly degenerate parabolic PDEs, for the simulation of sedimentation processes of solid particles immersed in a fluid. Particular attention is paid to the case of settling in vessels with varying cross-sectional area. LÄS MER
18. Stable High Order Finite Difference Methods for Wave Propagation and Flow Problems on Deforming Domains
Sammanfattning : We construct stable, accurate and efficient numerical schemes for wave propagation and flow problems posed on spatial geometries that are moving, deforming, erroneously described or non-simply connected. The schemes are on Summation-by-Parts (SBP) form, combined with the Simultaneous Approximation Term (SAT) technique for imposing initial and boundary conditions. LÄS MER
19. Solution to boundary-contact problems of elasticity in mathematical models of the printing-plate contact system for flexographic printing
Sammanfattning : Boundary-contact problems (BCPs) are studied within the frames ofclassical mathematical theory of elasticity and plasticityelaborated by Landau, Kupradze, Timoshenko, Goodier, Fichera andmany others on the basis of analysis of two- and three-dimensionalboundary value problems for linear partial differential equations.A great attention is traditionally paid both to theoreticalinvestigations using variational methods and boundary singularintegral equations (Muskhelishvili) and construction of solutionsin the form that admit efficient numerical evaluation (Kupradze). 20. Adaptive Geometric Numerical Integration of Mechanical Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about structure preserving numerical integration of initial value problems, i.e., so called geometric numerical integrators. LÄS MER
