21. A numerical and experimental study of initial defibration of wood
Sammanfattning : A major drawback of the defibration or refining process in manufacturing pulp is that of its large energy requirements. If the mechanics of the process were better understood, large amounts of energy could probably be saved. The initial defibration seems to be crucial for both the quality of the pulp and the total consumption of energy. LÄS MER
22. Fermentation of undetoxified dilute acid lignocellulose hydrolysate for fuel ethanol production
Sammanfattning : Important aspects of ethanol production from undetoxified dilute acid lignocellulose hydrolysate are covered in this thesis, which primarily focuses on the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker's yeast) as the biocatalyst. Nine different strains of S. LÄS MER
23. Data Assimilation in Fluid Dynamics using Adjoint Optimization
Sammanfattning : Data assimilation arises in a vast array of different topics: traditionally in meteorological and oceanographic modelling, wind tunnel or water tunnel experiments and recently from biomedical engineering. Data assimilation is a process for combine measured or observed data with a mathematical model, to obtain estimates of the expected data. LÄS MER
24. Measuring degradation in cable insulation material under realistic operation conditions
Sammanfattning : One of the challenges in laboratory investigation of degradation and ageing of HVDC cable insulation is related to securing, or in other words, imitating the real service environment of the material specimens. So far, the published data refer to experiments conducted in thermo-oxidative conditions, which is not the case during normal cable operation. LÄS MER
25. Large eddy simulation of dual-fuel combustion under ICE conditions
Sammanfattning : The present thesis aims at studying n-heptane/methanol dual-fuel combustion under internal combustion engine conditions and strives to improve the understanding of its ignition, combustion, and pollutant emission mechanisms. Large-eddy simulation (LES) coupled with Eulerian stochastic fields (ESF) approach is employed to simulate single/dual-fuel combustion in a constant-volume vessel to mimic the single/dual-fuel combustion in conventional/dual-fuel premixed engines.
