  1. 1. Large Eddy Simulation of Impinging Jets

    Författare :Thomas Hällqvist; Laszlo Fuchs; Pierre Sagaut; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Impinging jet; large eddy simulation; heat transfer; vortex formation; circular jet; forcing; inflow conditions; implicit modeling.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of impinging air jets. The impinging jet configuration features heated circular jets impinging onto a flat plate. The problem addressed here is of generic nature, with applications in many engineering devices, such as cooling of components in gas turbines, in cars and electronic devices. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hydrogeological Methods in Geotechnical Engineering: Applied to settlements caused by underground construction

    Författare :Jenny Persson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :excavation; tunnel; hydrogeology; consolidation; pumping test; Groundwater; inflow rate; settlement; transmissivity; pore pressure; clay;

    Sammanfattning : Improvement in the infrastructure in urban areas generally involves underground construction with tunneling and deep excavations. One important consideration when constructing in cities founded on soft soil is settlement resulting from groundwater drawdown. The potential cost of excessive settlement in these projects is immense. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modelling Techniques for Large-Eddy Simulation of Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

    Författare :Timofey Mukha; Mattias Liefvendahl; Hrvoje Jasak; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wall modelling; Inflow generation; Large-eddy simulation; OpenFOAM; Computational fluid dynamics; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Large-eddy simulation (LES) is a highly accurate turbulence modelling approach in which a wide range of spatial and temporal scales of the flow are resolved. However, LES becomes prohibitively computationally expensive when applied to wall-bounded flows at high Reynolds numbers, which are typical of many industrial applications. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Baltic shore-lands facing climate change

    Författare :Alma Strandmark; Sara Cousins; Martin Entling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arthropod diversity; Baltic shores; Beetles; Climate change; Energy flows; Marine inflow; Sea level rise; Shore ecosystems; Species distribution; Spiders; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis provides new insight concerning drivers behind differences in arthropod diversity and abundance in Baltic shore ecosystems and how the arthropod communities might be affected when the conditions in the Baltic Sea are altered due to climate change.  The focus has been on climate related changes that are unique for coastal ecosystems, especially sea level rise and changes in the inflow of marine nutrients. 5. 5. Tunnel Grouting: Engineering Methods for Characterization of Fracture Systems in Hard Rock and Implications for Tunnel Inflow

    Författare :Lisa Hernqvist; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :fracture system; anisotropy; flow dimension; hydraulic tests; hydraulic aperture; transmissivity; grouting; fractures; rock mass;

    Sammanfattning : In tunnel construction in hard rock, a common method to reduce water inflow is to perform pre-grouting. The grouting design should be adapted to the current rock mass conditions as well as the stated inflow requirement for the tunnel project. LÄS MER
