16. Prostaglandins and Isoprostanes in Relation to Risk Factors for Atherosclerosis : Role of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress
Sammanfattning : Inflammation and oxidative stress may be involved in atherogenesis. This thesis describes clinical studies of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α), an inflammatory mediator, and the isoprostane 8-iso-PGF2α, a reliable indicator of oxidative stress, and cytokine-related inflammatory mediators and indicators in healthy subjects and in a population-based cohort of Swedish men. 17. Multifunctional roles of plasmin in inflammation : Studies of animal models on rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, wound healing and infection
Sammanfattning : Plasmin has been suggested to be involved in degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and tissue remodeling during a number of physiological and pathological processes. The aims of this thesis were to study the functional roles of plasmin during pathological inflammation in autoimmune and nonautoimmune disease models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), wound healing and infection. 18. Endogenous and microbial modulators of inflammation
Sammanfattning : Cardiometabolic disease is characterized by dysregulated, chronic inflammation, that may result from impaired resolution pathways or alterations in the gut microbiota. Thus, restoring specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) or intestinal bacteria with immunomodulatory properties represent potential therapeutic strategies for patients. LÄS MER
19. Biomarkers of inflammation in atrial fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure (HF) and mortality. Inflammation is linked to AF.The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate inflammatory activity and cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients with AF on effective oral anticoagulation. 20. Exploring Links between Melatonin, Inflammation and Depression
Sammanfattning : Major depressive disorder (MDD) is one of the leading global causes of disease burden. Worse yet, about one third of the patients with MDD do not experience a remission with current treatments. LÄS MER
