1. Inflammation and neutrophil recruitment in healing of colonic anastomosis
Sammanfattning : Wound healing is a multistep process with an initial inflammatory response, followed by synthesis of extracellular matrix components and finalized by a repair phase. One main goal was to determine the impact and adhesive mechanisms of neutrophil recruitment in anastomotic healing in the colon. LÄS MER
2. Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion. Proinflammatory response and organ dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Intestinal I/R is considered to be an important initiating event in several pathophysiological conditions such as trauma, bleeding, sepsis and pancreatitis, frequently leading to concomitant both single and potentially multiple organ dysfunction. The purpose of this thesis was to study mechanims underlying the development of multiple organ dysfunction, with special focus on intercellular proinflammatory regulation in the concurrent development of tissue injury. 3. Intestinal permeability : a parameter of mucosal dysfunction
Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, and to act as a barrier towards hazardous and non-nutritional substances. In the present thesis the barrier function of the gastrointestinal tract was studied in animal models in vivo, in situ and in vitro. LÄS MER
4. Helicobacter pylori and Chlamydia pneumoniae in primary care- cardiovascular and gastrointestinal aspects
Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori and Chlamydia pneumoniae are common infectious agents in the Swedish population, causing gastritis ulcers and respiratory infections. The metabolic syndrome is characterised by overweight, insulin resistance, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidaemia. LÄS MER
5. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase, new roles for an old enzyme
Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) has a wide tissue distribution with the highest expression found in white adipose tissue (WAT). HSL also has a unique ability to hydrolyze a large panel of substrates including acylglycerols, cholesteryl esters and retinyl esters. HSL is potentially a new drug target for the treatment of obesity and type II diabetes. LÄS MER
