  1. 1. Dynamic modelling of the forest ecosystem: Incorporation of the phosphorus cycle

    Författare :Lin Yu; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dynamic modeling; forest ecosystem; phosphorus cycle;

    Sammanfattning : The forest ecosystem provides and regulates many important ecosystem services, such as soil and water protection, timber production, and climate regulation. It has been influenced by changes induced by humans, for example, our increasing demand for timber and bioenergy, the increase in nitrogen (N) deposition and CO2 concentrations due to industrialization, and climate change which has caused an increase in global temperature and extreme events such as storms. 2. 2. Industrialization of Services : Technology and Routinization in the 21st Century

    Författare :Richard Backteman; Niklas Arvidsson; Eric Giertz; Anna Jonsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industrialization; services; knowledge; technology; Industrialisering; tjänster; kunskap; teknologi; Industriell ekonomi och organisation; Industrial Economics and Management;

    Sammanfattning : Sweden has a long tradition of process improvements, productivity increments, waste reduction in manufacturing, continuing a mode of industrialization that helped achieve prosperity. With growing urban centers, mechanization of agriculture, outsourcings by manufacturing and the public sector with subsequent acquisitions, large service firms have appeared in an ever-growing service sector. 3. 3. Modeling nutrient cycling and sustainable forest growth in a changing world

    Författare :Patrik Wallman; LUCSUS; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; nutrients; sustainability; ForSAFE; Chemical technology and engineering; forestry technology; forestry; Silviculture; system dynamics; forest growth models; dynamic modeling; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; skogsbruk; skogsteknik; Skogsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : It took 70-80 years to realize the width of the impact of industrialization on the forest ecosystems since a forest ecosystem is a "slow system" as seen from a human perspective. An anticipated future climate change and increasing carbon dioxide and ozone levels will change the conditions even more with time and the widely used statistical forest growth models will not be applicable anymore. 4. 4. Energy Efficient Processes for the Production of Gaseous Biofuels - Reforming and Gas Upgrading

    Författare :Helena Svensson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biofuels; Reverse-flow reforming; Gas upgrading; Amine absorption;

    Sammanfattning : Replacing fossil fuels with biofuels is one way of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thus decreasing our impact on the global climate. For this to be a viable option, several production routes are needed, as no single option can fully replace fossil fuels. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Ups and Downs of the Holocene: Exploring Relationships between Global CO2 and Climate Variability in the North Atlantic Region

    Författare :Catherine Jessen; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marklära; geomorfologi; climatology; klimatologi; rapid climate change; Holocene climate; atmospheric CO2 concentrations; geochemical proxy indicators; Paleobotanik; palynology; Geology; palynologi; fylogeni; geomorphology; fysisk geografi; Geologi; physical geography; kartografi; pedology; cartography; phylogeny; Palaeobotany; stomatal frequency; lake sediments;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to examine the relationship between climate and atmospheric CO2 concentrations through rapid climate changes during the Holocene. Climate was reconstructed using high-resolution, radiocarbon dated, lake sediment geochemical proxies (magnetic susceptibility, loss-on-ignition, total carbon/nitrogen/sulphur determinations and biogenic silica), vegetational reconstruction (pollen analysis) and stomatal frequency based CO2 reconstructions.
