11. Quantum chemical modeling of enzymatic reactions : applications to the tautomerase superfamily
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, quantum chemical methods are used to investigate enzymatic reaction mechanisms. The Density functional theory, in particular the hybrid B3LYP functional, is used to model two enzymes belonging to the tautomerase superfamily; 4-Oxalocrotonate Tautomerase (4-OT) and cis-Chloroacrylic Acid Dehalogenase (cis-CAAD). 12. Tools and applications to assess yeast physiology and robustness in bioprocesses: Lab-scale methods from single cells to populations
Sammanfattning : Bioprocesses enable the efficient production of valuable chemicals by microorganisms such as the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae . Predictable and stochastic perturbations affect microbial performance in an industrial-scale bioreactor. LÄS MER
13. Feruloyl esterases - Evaluation of their potential for biotechnological applications
Sammanfattning : Owing to the current efforts to find sustainable alternatives to petrochemical based industries and technologies, enzymatic degradation and valorization of plant biomass has been attracting interest. Due to the complexity of plant biomass, an array of enzymes is required to hydrolyze it, including esterases. LÄS MER
14. Hydrolases as Catalysts for Green Chemistry and Industrial Applications - Esterase, Lipase and Phytase
Sammanfattning : The use of enzymes in industrial applications has been recognised for providing clean processes with minimal impact on the environment. This thesis presents studies on engineering of enzymes and enzyme-based processes in the light of green chemistry and environmental sustainability, and focuses on three hydrolases: esterase, lipase and phytase. 15. Biochar systems across scales in Sweden : An industrial ecology perspective
Sammanfattning : Biochar – the carbon rich residue derived from biomass pyrolysis – is recognised as a potential solution to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, while simultaneously delivering socio-environmental benefits through biochar use as a material. Perceived as a sustainable innovation, biochar has raised interest throughout the world. LÄS MER
