21. Human muscle response to sprint exercise and nutrient supply with focus on factors related to protein metabolism
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis was to study the muscular response to repeated bouts of 30-s sprint exercise. This type of exercise gives rise to a profound metabolic perturbation that might counteract an exercise-induced stimulation of muscle protein synthesis. LÄS MER
22. NADPH oxidase and xanthine oxidoreductase as targets and regulators of the nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide pathway
Sammanfattning : Overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by NADPH oxidase (NOX) and xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) with a concomitant decrease in the bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO) from eNOS contributes to the development of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. Extensive research has proven the existence of an alternative NOS-independent pathway for NO production. LÄS MER
23. Platelet function in diabetes mellitus : relationships to hyperglycaemia, antidiabetic treatment and microangiopathy
Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis and increased morbidity and mortality in micro-and macrovascular complications. The metabolic derangements that accompany diabetes can adversely influence platelets and vascular endothelial function, which may contribute to the pathogenesis of diabetic angiopathy. LÄS MER
24. Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO): A novel class of messenger molecules regulating insulin and glucagon secretion
Sammanfattning : During the last decade it has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) are produced in our own body, and that they constitute a novel class of messenger molecules. In 1992 a constitutive NO-producing NO-synthase (cNOS) was found in the islets of Langerhans, and in 1997 we could show for the first time that the islets also contained a CO-producing constitutive heme oxygenase (HO-2). 25. Effects of Probiotics and Plant Components on Murine Experimental Colitis and Acute Liver Failure
Sammanfattning : Acute liver failure is accompanied by a high rate of bacterial septic complications. High portal level of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) can lead to a pronounced secretion by Kupffer cells of pro-inflammatory mediators which have been shown to be early and important mediators of liver injury.
