  1. 1. Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis - A study, with emphasis on host genetics, oral microbiota composition, and immunoregulatory networks

    Författare :Maria Bankvall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aphthous stomatitis; Oral mucosa; Oral medicine; Genome-wide association study; Genetic linkage; Association; Genetic polymorphism; Microbiota; Restriction fragment length polymorphism; Antigen-presenting cell; T-lymphocyte; Lymph node; Flow cytometry;

    Sammanfattning : Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is one of the most common oral mucosal lesions. The aetiology is unknown and currently there is no consensus regarding suitable treatment regimens. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Health promotional interventions informed by community-based participatory research in a socially disadvantaged neighbourhood : development, exploration and evaluation

    Författare :Rathi Ramji; Anders Kottorp; Margareta Rämgård; Elisabeth Carlson; Yolanda Suarez Balcazar; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Participatory Action Research; Quality of Life; Physical Activity; Oral Health; Vårdvetenskap; Care science;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to understand the impact of community-based participatory research-informed health promotional initiatives on the health of communities living in socially disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Southern Sweden. The thesis was part of a larger program, Health promotion, Innovation in Collaboration which was a community-based participatory research program aiming to create novel ways to improve health through participatory and collaborative strategies. 3. 3. Aldehyde toxicity in human oral epithelium

    Författare :Jan Anders Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Oral epithelium; cell cultures; toxicity; transformation; aldehydes; thiols; ADH3;

    Sammanfattning : Human oral epithelium is an established target for aldehyde toxicity, including from usage of tobacco, intake of foods and fluids, leaching of dental materials, and from mouth inhalation of aldehydes in the work environment. Following establishment of culture/exposure protocols for oral cell cultures, toxicity mechanisms and risk of malignant transformation from aldehyde exposure was investigated, including the metabolic defense offered by alcohol dehydrogenase 3 (ADH3) against formaldehyde toxicity. 4. 4. The neuropeptide VIP and the IL-6 family of cytokines in bone : effects on bone resorption, cytokine expression and receptor signalling in osteoblasts and bone marrow stromal cells

    Författare :Emma Persson; Ulf Lerner; Andreas Kindmark; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; osteoblast; bone resorption; cytokines; IL-6; neuropeptides; VIP; transcription factor; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bone tissue is continuously degraded and rebuilt to respond to the needs of the body. Cells of the osteoblast lineage are responsible for the formation of bone, whereas the resorption of bone tissue is carried out by osteoclasts. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulation of Tissue Factor and Coagulation Activity : Translation Studies with Focus on Platelet-Monocyte Aggregates and Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

    Författare :Christina Christersson; Agneta Siegbahn; Lars Wallentin; Jonas Oldgren; Ingebjorg Seljeflot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; Myocardial infarction; Coagulation; Platelet-monocyte aggregates; Tissue factor; Thrombin inhibition; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial infarction (MI) is often caused by a disruption of an atherosclerotic plaque with activation of coagulation, platelets and inflammation. The aims were; to investigate whether the oral direct thrombin inhibitor, ximelagatran affected markers for coagulation, platelet and inflammation in a patient cohort with recent MI and if the coagulation markers could identify patients with increased risk of new ischemic events; to evaluate some of the mechanisms involved in formation of platelet-monocyte aggregates (PMAs).
