  1. 1. Indirect Radiohalogenation of Targeting Proteins : Labelling Chemistry and Biological Characterisation

    Författare :Anna Orlova; Hans Lundqvist; Jörgen Carlsson; Lars Gedda; Jacek Capala; D.Scott Wilbur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; radiohalogenation; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biomedical Radiation Science; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In about half of all newly diagnosed cancer cases, conventional treatment is not adequately curative, mainly due to the failure of conventional techniques to find and kill residual cells and metastases, which might consist of only a few malignant cells, without causing unacceptable complications to healthy tissue. To solve the problem a more selective delivery of cytotoxic substances to tumour cells is needed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies of DNA repair strategies in response to complex DNA damages

    Författare :Ainars Bajinskis; Mats Harms-Ringdahl; Bo Stenerlöw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ionizing radiation; complex DNA damage; indirect effect of radiation; dimethyl sulfoxide; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to study the role of the indirect actions of γ-rays and α-particles on the complexity of primary DNA damages and the repair fidelity of major DNA repair pathways: non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), homologous recombination repair (HRR) and base excision repair (BER). The complexity of radiation-induced damages increases and the proximity between damages decreases with increasing LET due to formation of ionization clusters along the particle track. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Role of ecological processes in determining effects of contaminants in aquatic ecosystems

    Författare :Anna-Lea Golz; Clare Bradshaw; Karen Kidd; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecosystem approach; ionizing radiation; HBCDD; microcosm; species interactions; indirect effects; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Aquatic ecosystems cover approximately 70% of the Earth’s surface and support a wide range of ecosystem services. Despite their importance, aquatic ecosystems are increasingly exposed to anthropogenic stressors, such as contaminants and climate change impacts. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Formation and repair of complex DNA damage induced by ionizing radiation

    Författare :Karin Magnander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ionizing radiation; clustered damage; chromatin structure; DSB;

    Sammanfattning : DNA is the critical target when cells are exposed to ionizing radiation, a potent stressor with capacity to produce complex DNA damages, thereby increasing the risk of cancer. DNA and associated histones form chromatin, which is an effective protection against ionizing radiation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Daphnids adaptive strategies to UV radiation

    Författare :Carla Eloisa Fernández; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :Cladocera; Zooplankton; Andean lakes; Daphnia; Ultraviolet radiation; Migration strategy; Photo-protection;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the adaptive strategies of daphnids that allows them to maintain stable populations while deal with UV radiation, highlighting the differences in the responses that populations with different evolutionary histories may have.Although exposition to lethal doses in nature is unlikely, sub-lethal UV-B radiation doses may have strong impacts on zooplankton.
