  1. 1. Microbenthos under Pressure : Impacts of human activities on bacteria and meiofauna communities in Baltic soft sediments

    Författare :Sven Iburg; Francisco J. A. Nascimento; Owen Wangensteen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soft sediments; benthic ecosystems; anthropogenic disturbance; contamination; recreational boating; bottom trawling; meiofauna; bacteria; metabarcoding; Baltic Sea; mjuka sediment; bentiska ekosystem; antropogenisk påverkan; förorening; fritidsbåtar; bottentrålning; meiofauna; bakterier; metabarcoding; Östersjön; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The marine benthic zone is one of the largest habitats on the planet, harbouring a large diversity of life that underpin many important ecological processes. However, these habitats have been under growing stress from human activities, profoundly altering their living communities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Suspended solids and indicator bacteria in stormwater runoff : Sources of bias in field measurements

    Författare :Helen Galfi; David Stransky; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Stormwater quality monitoring and control is a prerequisite for sustainable water resources management in urban areas. Stormwater monitoring programs are based on general water sampling guidance and, in the absence of standard procedures, employ various sampling and analytical methods. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of microbial health risks associated with the reuse of source-separated humna urine

    Författare :Caroline Höglund; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :urine-separation; urine; wastewater systems; wastewater reuse; recycling; enteric pathogens; faecal sterols; indicator bacteria; hygiene risks; microbial persistence; microbial risk assessment; QMRA; fertiliser; crop;

    Sammanfattning : Human excreta contain plant nutrients and have the potentialto be used as a fertiliser in agriculture. Urine contributesthe major proportion of the nutrients (N, P and K) in domesticwastewater whereas faeces contribute a smaller amount andinvolves greater health risks if reused due to the possiblepresence of enteric pathogens. 4. 4. Nutrient Limitation of Bacterial Growth in Soil

    Författare :Fredrik Demoling; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; Ecology; Fertilization; Bacteria; Soil; Fungi; Thymidine or Leucine incorporation; Growth limitation; Phosphorus; Nitrogen; Carbon;

    Sammanfattning : Lack of carbon has been assumed to be the most common limiting factor for bacterial growth in soil, although there are reports of limitation by nitrogen and phosphorus. I have studied nutrient limitation of bacterial growth in soil using a novel technique, where thymidine or leucine incorporation is used to detect changes in growth rates after adding nutrients. 5. 5. Assessment of stormwater and snowmelt quality based on water management priorities and the consequent water quality parameters

    Författare :Helen Galfi; Maria Viklander; Jiri Marsalek; Helene Österlund; Jon M. Hathaway; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stormwater quality; indicator bacteria; water quality assessment; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ;

    Sammanfattning : Stormwater and snowmelt pollution contributes to degradation of quality of the receiving waters. For assessing such impacts, it is effective to focus on specific causes of degradation, as done in this study of the quality of stormwater and snowmelt discharges into the receiving waters serving for supply of raw drinking water and water-based recreation.
