1. On computational modeling of sintering based on homogenization
Sammanfattning : Liquid-phase sintering is the process where a precompacted powder, “green body”, is heatedto the point where (a part of) the solid material melts, and the specimen shrinks while keeping(almost) net shape. In the case of hardmetal, the microstructure is defined by WC-Co-particleswith large pores, whereby molten Co represents the liquid phase. LÄS MER
2. Predictions of Aerodynamically Induced Wind Noise Around Ground Vehicles
Sammanfattning : Over the last decade wind noise has with few exceptions consistently generated a constant or even growing level of customer complaints to automotive companies world-wide. This can partly be explained by a relatively greater focus on engine, power-train and tire noise combined with a growing need to reduce weight in future cars. LÄS MER
3. Synthesis of Novel Polyhydroxyl Surfactants. Influence of the Relative Stereochemistry on Surfactant Properties
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the synthesis and characterization ofnovel polyhydroxyl surfactants. The first part describes thesynthesis of a number of stereoisomers of a polyhydroxylsurfactant, and the second part concerns surface chemicalcharacterization. LÄS MER
4. Toughness enhancement in transition metal nitrides
Sammanfattning : Toughness enhancements can be induced in cubic-B1 transition metal nitride alloys by an increased occupation of the d-t2g metallic states. In this Licentiate Thesis I use density functional theory to investigate the mechanical properties of TiN and VN and of the ternaries obtained by replacing 50% of Ti and V atoms with M (M = V, Nb, Ta, Mo, and W) to form ordered structures with minimum number of inter-metallic bonds. 5. Modelling the passive mechanical properties of arteries
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the modelling of passive mechanical properties of arteries. An artery is characterised by large nonlinear deformation, anisotropy and incompressibility. In addition, it is subjected to a residual stress when the applied load is removed. All this combined makes it complex to derive appropriate mechanical models. LÄS MER
