1. Detection and classification of sea ice from spaceborne multi-frequency synthetic aperture radar imagery and radar altimetry
Sammanfattning : The sea ice cover in the Arctic is undergoing drastic changes. Since the start of satellite observations by microwave remote sensing in the late 1970's, the maximum summer sea ice extent has been decreasing and thereby causing a generally thinner and younger sea ice cover. LÄS MER
2. Optical Characterization of Solar Collectors form Outdoor Measurements
Sammanfattning : Due to high installation costs and relatively low output, the active use of solar energy is limited. The output from a collector can be improved e.g. by using a selective absorber, AR-treated cover glass or transparent insulation. LÄS MER
3. 3D Magnetic Photonic Crystals : Synthesis and Characterization
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers. 4. Radio Wave Propagation in Confined Environments - Measurements and Models
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with radio wave propagation in environments where the propagation is severely influenced by surrounding objects, mainly walls and other building structures. As an introduction, a brief description is given on propagation terms like loss, delay and dispersion along with system functions relevant for the topic. LÄS MER
5. Optical Efficiency of Low-Concentrating Solar Energy Systems with Parabolic Reflectors
Sammanfattning : Solar electricity is a promising energy technology for the future, and by using reflectors for concentrating solar radiation onto photovoltaic cells, the cost per produced kWh can be significantly reduced. The optical efficiency of a concentrating system determines the fraction of the incident energy that is transferred to the cells and depends on the optical properties of the system components. LÄS MER
