6. Genetic variation and sexual reproduction in a moss with dwarf males, Homalothecium lutescens
Sammanfattning : Dwarf males occur in many unrelated groups of organisms. Among land plants they are unique to mosses. Moss dwarf males originate from male spores that land and germinate on the female where their final size is restricted to a few mm. Fertilization in mosses occur over short distances with swimming spermatozoids. LÄS MER
7. Reproductive Biology and Population Genetics of Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.)
Sammanfattning : Common Ash, Fraxinus excelsior L. (Oleaceae) is a wind-pollinated, wind-dispersed, deciduous tree, commonly occurring throughout Central and Northern Europe. The thesis addresses several questions concerning reproductive biology and factors influencing the genetic richness of ash stands. LÄS MER
8. Island biogeography and population divergence in the Skyros wall lizard
Sammanfattning : Islands are cradles for new biodiversity and provide natural laboratories for the study of population divergence. In my thesis, I investigated the role of different evolutionary processes in the population divergence in the Skyros wall lizard (Podarcis gaigeae), a species where islet populations have strongly diverged morphologies. 9. Conservation biology and genetic structure of fringe populations of the scarce heath butterfly in Sweden
Sammanfattning : During the past century, about 82% of meadows and pastures have been lost in Sweden, with negative consequences for their flora and fauna. An example is the scarce heath butterfly, which is one of the red-listed species threatened by such habitat loss through afforestation. LÄS MER
10. Population Fragmentation and Genetic Variation in Grouse
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the genetic variation of two grouse species, the Chinese grouse (Bonasa sewersowi) and the Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) was examined with neutral genetic markers: microsatellites. Habitat fragmentation and isolation leads to structuring among and loss of genetic variation within populations. LÄS MER
