  1. 11. Genomic analysis of the process leading up to the extinction of the woolly mammoth

    Författare :Patrícia Pečnerová; Love Dalén; Mark Thomas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; woolly mammoth; Mammuthus primigenius; extinction; Wrangel Island; ancient DNA; palaeogenetics; population genetics; genomics; genomic erosion; genetic drift; inbreeding; population size; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Species worldwide are subject to contractions in both abundance and geographical range, and their persistence in a changing environment may thus depend on the ability to survive in small and fragmented populations. Despite the urgent need to understand how extinction works, our knowledge of pre-extinction genetic processes is limited because techniques allowing population and conservation genomics to be studied in wild threatened populations have become available only recently. 2. 12. Finding fitness : empirical and theoretical explorations of inferring fitness effects from population-level SNP data

    Författare :Bea Angelica Andersson; Xiao-Ru Wang; Åke Brännström; Tanja Slotte; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; distribution of fitness effects; site frequency spectra; missing data filtering; downsampling; imputation; sample size; population structure; inbreeding; selfing; homozygosity; Arabidopsis; Pinus; DFE-alpha; SLiM; population genomics; adaptation; biology; biologi; evolutionär genetik; evolutionary genetics; populationsbiologi; Population Biology; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Genetics; genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The distribution of fitness effects (DFE) describes the likelihood that a new mutation has a specific effect on the fitness of an individual in a given population. The shape of the DFE is a result of several factors such as population size, mating system and selective environment, and can in turn influence the evolutionary potential of a species. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Genomics of population decline

    Författare :Tom van der Valk; Katerina Guschanski; Aylwyn Scally; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genetic diversity; minimal-invasive samples; population decline; inbreeding; genetic purging; eastern gorillas; Dryas monkey; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : With human populations forecasted to grow in the next decades, many mammals face increasing anthropogenic threats. The consequential population declines are a precursor to extinctions, as small populations are not only more sensitive to stochastic events, but reduction in population size is generally also followed by a decrease in genetic diversity, which in turn reduces adaptive potential and fitness of the population. 4. 14. Phenotypic Plasticity and Adaptation Potential to Salinity in Early Life Stages of the Tunicate, Ciona intestinalis spB

    Författare :Elin Renborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transgenerational acclimation; Environmental variation; Tolerance range; Marine invertebrate; Quantitative genetics; Genetic structure; Local adaptation; Sexual selection; Gamete compatibility; Relatedness; Inbreeding; Heritability; Maternal effects;

    Sammanfattning : Species respond to environmental heterogeneity through a variety of mechanisms such as plasticity, genetic adaptation and phenotypic buffering. Determining how gene flow, scale of environmental heterogeneity and trait heritability influence these responses is important for understanding how these different mechanisms arise, which is a central task in the field of evolutionary biology. 5. 15. Gene transfer by interspecific hybridization in bryophytes

    Författare :Weerachon Sawangproh; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; homozygote; heterozygote; admixture; single nucleotide polymorphism; STRUCTURE; PCoA; hybrid index; inbreeding; outbreeding; hybrid depression; heterosis; phylogeny; purging selection; genetic purging; genotype; phenotype; sympatry; allopatry;

    Sammanfattning : The role of hybridization in evolution has been debated for more than a century regarding bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) as well as most other organisms. Bryophytes have haplodiplontic life cycles with a dominant haploid generation. LÄS MER
