1. On magnesium-modified titanium coatings and magnesium alloys for oral orthopaedic applications : in vitro investigation
Sammanfattning : In dentistry and orthopaedic surgery, research to find and developimproved biomaterials is progressing rapidly.Of specific interest is to accelerate bone formation around theimplant surface, which could improve the reliability of the implanteven in patients with compromised situations. 2. Exploring Cancer Drugs In Vitro and In Vivo : With Special Reference to Chemosensitivity Testing and Early Clinical Development
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the utility of in vitro drug sensitivity testing to optimize the use of cancer chemotherapy and to assess the properties of a new cancer drug in a phase I clinical trial. Tumour cells from patients were analysed with the short-term Fluorometric Microculture Cytotoxicity Assay (FMCA). LÄS MER
3. Protein–DNA Recognition : In Vitro Evolution and Characterization of DNA-Binding Proteins
Sammanfattning : DNA-recognizing proteins are involved in a multitude of important life-processes. Therefore, it is of great interest to understand the underlying mechanisms that set the rules for sequence specific protein–DNA interactions. Previous attempts aiming to resolve these interactions have been focused on naturally occurring systems. LÄS MER
4. Gliadin-Blocking Peptides In vitro assessment of their potential to alleviate celiac disease development
Sammanfattning : This thesis work aimed to investigate the potential of synthetic peptides as agents to block wheat prolamins (gliadins) that trigger the development of symptoms in celiac disease. The first step of this investigation included selection and synthesis of peptides with high affinity to gliadins and assessment of the potential of these so-called blocking peptides to limit gliadin reactivity in vitro.
