1. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro
Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation. 2. Helicobacter pylori and Gastric Protection Mechanisms : An in vivo Study in Mice and Rats
Sammanfattning : The stomach is frequently exposed to hazardous agents and to resist this harsh environment, several protective mechanisms exist. Of special interest is the gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori which causes gastritis, ulcers and cancer but the mechanism leading to these diseases are still unclear. However it is very likely that H. LÄS MER
3. Acid transport through gastric mucus : A study in vivo in rats and mice
Sammanfattning : The gastric mucosa is frequently exposed to endogenously secreted hydrochloric acid of high acidity. Gastric mucosal defense mechanisms are arranged at different levels of the gastric mucosa and must work in unison to maintain its integrity. LÄS MER
4. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure
Sammanfattning : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. 5. The Role of Dopamine-Metabolising Enzymes in Renal Sodium Handling. An Experimental Study in vivo
Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) has been shown to act as an intrarenal natriuretic hormone and defects in the renal DA system have been associated with some forms of hypertension. How the DA activity is upregulated durin- increased sodium intake is, however, unknown. LÄS MER
