21. In vitro bioassays: monitoring of bioactive chemical pollutants in food and food contact materials
Sammanfattning : We are continuously exposed to mixtures of known and unknown chemicals via our diet. The standard control program for food safety, at present, relies heavily on the chemical quantification of a limited number of chemicals with known toxic properties. LÄS MER
22. Benefits of Non-Linear Mixed Effect Modeling and Optimal Design : Pre-Clinical and Clinical Study Applications
Sammanfattning : Despite the growing promise of pharmaceutical research, inferior experimentation or interpretation of data can inhibit breakthrough molecules from finding their way out of research institutions and reaching patients. This thesis provides evidence that better characterization of pre-clinical and clinical data can be accomplished using non-linear mixed effect modeling (NLMEM) and more effective experiments can be conducted using optimal design (OD). 23. Pharmacological Studies of Four Neuropeptide Y-family Receptor Subtypes
Sammanfattning : The neuropeptide Y (NPY) family of structurally related peptides includes NPY, peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP). They bind to G-protein coupled receptors named Y receptors, and include in mammals Y1, Y2, Y4, Y5, Y6 and in non-mammalian vertebrates also Y7, Yb and Yc. LÄS MER
24. Ribosome Associated Factors Recruited for Protein Export and Folding
Sammanfattning : Protein folding and export to the membrane are crucial events in the cell. Both processes may be initiated already at the ribosome, assisted by factors that bind to the polypeptide as it emerges from the ribosome. LÄS MER
25. Cystatin C functions in vitro and in vivo. Studies on target enzyme inhibition by cystatin C variants and cystatin C deficient mice
Sammanfattning : Cystatin C variants with Arg8, Leu9 and/or Val10 replaced by Gly residues were produced by site-directed mutagenesis and E. coli expression. LÄS MER
