  1. 1. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies

    Författare :Hanna Kälvegren; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Arina Richter; Erik Kihlström; Kenneth Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia pneumoniae; Platelet; atherosclerosis; Infection; LDL-oxidation; Percutaneous coronary intervention; Cardiovascular disease; Serotonin; Reactive oxygen species production; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Development of Methods for Assessing Unbound Drug Exposure in the Brain : In vivo, in vitro and in silico

    Författare :Markus Fridén; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Ulf Bredberg; Yuichi Sugiyama; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; Drug transport; Tissue distribution; Transporters; Pharmacokinetics; Other pharmacy; Övrig farmaci; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier is formed by tightly joined capillary cells with transporter proteins and acts as to regulate the brain concentration of nutrients as well as many drugs. When developing central nervous system drugs it is necessary to measure the unbound drug concentration in the brain, i.e. the unbound brain exposure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Neuropeptide Y Receptors in Human, Guinea pig and Chicken : Cloning, in vitro Pharmacology and in situ Hybridization

    Författare :Sara Holmberg; Helen Cox; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; G-protein coupled receptor; neuropeptide Y; neuropeptide Y receptor; ortholog; chicken; guinea pig; mutagenesis; receptor computer modeling; mRNA in situ hybridization; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is known to influence a vast number of physiological and behavioral processes such as vasoconstriction, circadian rhythms, feeding, anxiety and memory. Peptides of the NPY family bind to five different cloned G-protein coupled receptor subtypes (Y1, 2, 4-6). LÄS MER

  4. 4. β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA)-induced neurotoxicity : Studies in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Lisa Ersson; Malin Andersson; Eva B Brittebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; BMAA; neurotoxin; neurodegeneration; cellular transport; metabolic profiling; protein-association; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxic non-proteinogenic amino acid produced naturally by cyanobacteria, diatoms and dinoflagellates and it has been detected in samples from fresh and marine water from all over the world. It can bioaccumulate in fish and shellfish, and has a potential to biomagnify in a terrestrial food chain. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Methods for Preclinical Evaluation of Cytotoxic Drugs : With Special Reference to the Cyanoguanidine CHS 828 and Hollow Fiber Method

    Författare :Saadia Bashir Hassan; Elin Lindhagen; Rolf Larsson; Mats O Karlsson; Mustapha Hassan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; CHS 828; in vitro; in vivo; hollow fiber; models; NF-kB; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : The novel cyanoguanidine CHS 828 has shown promising antitumor activity in many in vitro and in vivo studies. The long-term 14 days in vitro hollow fiber cultures, where tumor cells from different tumor cell lines were cultured inside semipermeable fibers, were more resistant to CHS 828 and other cytotoxic drugs than the shorter-term 3 days cultures.
